Abdul is one of Dr. Claw's agents in Inspector Gadget.
Routine[]
Abdul is a M.A.D. agent who appears in various disguises on several missions.
Personality[]
He appears to be quite intelligent due to his disguises. He also seems to be secretive, unlike most of the other agents, when it comes to attempts at capturing Gadget.
History[]
Together with Jarvis, Dick, Squirt and Pops, Abdul posed as a member of Amazon Annie's tribe while stationed in the Amazon jungle. As such, he wore only a grass skirt and sandals and had a small bone decorating his nose. After Inspector Gadget accepted Annie's invitation to attend the tribe's Amazon sacrificial ritual, Abdul and Dick worked together to turn a large stone wheel attached to a chain. This contraption slowly pulled Gadget, seated on a stone throne, into a fire pit. The two men were scared off by a brown gorilla (actually Brain in disguise) but soon resumed their efforts. However, Dr. Claw himself ordered Amazon Annie to stop the liquidation as he had need of Gadget at his Aztec Temple hideout. Disappointed, the entire M.A.D. tribe was left behind in the jungle.[1]
Abdul replaced a naval crewmember on a cruise ship taken over by M.A.D. Agents. He first reported back to Dr. Claw by video together with Dick as they were putting on the officer's clothes. Later, when the ship was at sea, he, Dick and Squirt reported to Claw in person, but at this time Abdul had changed into a black M.A.D. uniform.[2]
Abdul disguised himself as an Indian peasant and prepared a spring loaded bed of nails to trap Inspector Gadget. But Brain was stuck in a large rolling drum and collided with Abdul, causing him to fall onto the bed of nails and be flung into the wall. He ended up on the other side. A short while later, Brain crashed onto Abdul together with the drum and a collection of glue bombs that had been prepared by another M.A.D. Agent, Pops. Brain and Abdul were stuck in the glue when Inspector Gadget passed them and said hello.[3]
Abdul posed as a camera operator on the set of a motion picture set. In reality, he was filming footage of a nearby top-secret military instalation.[4]
Abdul was one of various Agents involved in Dr. Claw's Martian invation hoax. He first changed from a M.A.D. uniform into a Metro City police uniform to fool Inspector Gadget together with fellow agents Lenny and Fred. Taking control of the other two, Abdul asked which one of them carried a 0037B exploding pen. Lenny produced one from his pocket and Abdul told him to hand it over so they could execute plan 4236. They collectively asked the Inspector for his autograph, but when they ran away, Gadget reached out one of his extendable Gadget Arms and returned the pen to one of their pockets, causing them to end up in the explosion. Later, Abdul joined other M.A.D. agents dressed as Martians in robbing valuables all over Metro City.[5]
Disguised as a desert nomad, Abdul rode up to the Gadget Van on a camel, then attacked Inspector Gadget with a whip. The Inspector managed to evade the whip by using his Gadget Neck, and drove off. Abdul chased the Gadgetmobile on his camel, which came acquiped with a cannon underneath his saddle. He managed to hit the Gadgetmobile twice, but caused no damage, and Gadget assumed it was just a hailstorm.[6]
Abdul was stationed at M.A.D. Mountain when Dr. Claw hijacked a train carrying computer parts and had it rerouted to his secret headquarters. He drove a cart as he prepared to unload the precious cargo from the train. Abdul and several other Agents were told to get Inspector Gadget. Before they could do so, Penny re-hijacked the train using her computer book.[7]
Abdul and Bruce set out to rob the Metro City bank and other establishments when Dr. Claw took control of Chief Quimby's crime computer. They were arrested after Inspector Gadget caused the computer to malfunction.
[8]
While in a speedboat driven by Pops, Abdul launched several rocked shaped bombs at Inspector Gadget, who was driving another speedboat in the lake on the grounds of the Greenfinger Institute. He kept on firing rockets even after Gadget held up a white flag of truce. Abdul ordered Pops to turn when Gadget changed direction, then to go faster. Both of them ducked when a fellow M.A.D. Agent, who was being pulled along by Gadget's boat, was catapulted into the air and nearly collided with them. This made Pops lose control of the boat, which crashed on the river bank and into a tree. Although the agents were disorentated and drowzy, Dr. Claw ordered them to continue their pursuit. They managed to get the battered boat back in the water and shot another three rockets at it, causing a large explosion. Abdul told Pops "Scratch one Gadget" and both laughed as they continued on down the river, certain they had completed their assignment. They were arrested by Quimby's men after the police arrived on the scene.[9]
Abdul became one of the students at Dr. Claw's M.A.D. Academy, and was referred by Claw as one of his 'kids'. Before classes properly started, Abdul was wearing a standard M.A.D. uniform and armwrestling at a table with Bruce. When Claw ordered Agent No 3 to flip the control switch, Abdul changed into a school uniform. Claw then asked the class to repeat their school motto "We hate Gadget".[10]
Using the callsign "Agent 1", Abdul broke into the palace of King Woodlig of Romanovia at night and stole the Royal Seal of Romanovia for Dr. Claw. By the laws of Romanovia, whoever posessed the seal, legaly gains the power to rule the country. Abdul remained in contact with Claw, speaking him during the theft. Shortly, Abdul asked Claw what to do with the seal until his arrival, and was told to hide it in Volla's gypsy camp. Abdul burried the seal in the ground near the camp, and left a map with directions for his fellow M.A.D. Agent Dick, who was stationed in the camp.
In Romanovia, Claw took control of the Gadgetmobile's radar and sent it to an inn, where Abdul led a trio of M.A.D. musicians in Bavarian outfits. Squirt was loading a cannonball into a tuba and Lenny had laughing gas in his concertina. Abdul took the lead, counting off for the others to start playing, and was also the first to make an attempt on Gadget's life, by blowing a dart through his clarinet. Gadget was saved by a waiter (Brain in disguise) who pushed him out of the way, causing the dart to hit a plate instead. Lenny then released the laughing gas from his instrument, which soon had the Inspector, the waiter and all three musicians in stitches. Abdul couldn't help himself, but slapped Squirt on the back, causing him to fire the cannonball from his tuba. It missed Gadget, but caused a hole in the wall. The waiter made a run for it, with Gadget hot on his heels, leaving the three M.A.D. musicans still laughing. They stopped laughing when Dr. Claw reprimanded them for their failure via videophone.[11]
Abdul drove a large truck filled with explosives to Dr. Claw's island resort, the High View Hotel on Everest Island. He was accompanied by Squirt. But while climbing the mountain road, they spotted the M.A.D. Taxi cab and its driver coming from the other way, with a lot of pink smoke (sleeping gas) emiting from it and a skier riding on top. Unable to swerve, Abdul honked his horn, and the cabbie awoke just in time to avoid a collision. The cab shot off the road, but the truck completed its run to the High View Hotel. [12]
Abdul and Pops were tasked to spring Nervous Nick DeFecto out of jail after he turned himself in to the police to defect from M.A.D. Together they dug a tunnel that led straight into DeFecto's jail cell. When Dr. Claw contacted them, he told them they weren't progressing fast enough, and the two agents doubled their efforts. Emerging trough the floor into DeFecto's cell, they glared at him menacingly as he cowered against the bars, calling for help. Help came from Gadget's niece Penny, who used her computer book to open the cell door to let Nick out, then slammed it in Abdul and Pop's faces, causing them to fall back into the hole the had exited. They retreated, and came out of a manhole in the street, only to be contacted by Claw again. Both of them gave the M.A.D. salute (a fist to the head) simultaniously, and nervously confessed that Nick had gotten away.[13]
Abdul, Bruce and Dick were aiding the M.A.D. Ninja in stealing all the gold from the Metro City Mint. They managed to trap Inspector Gadget in a large safe with a bomb, and waited for the arrival of a M.A.D. helicopter on the roof. When Corporal Capeman arrived on the roof, chasing Brain, he recognized the Agents as villains and tried to put them under arrest. He managed to fend them off thanks to Brain's help. Then several Police Helicopters arrived instead. The Ninja escaped, but the other three agents were arrested and Capeman took the credit for their capture.[14]
Abdul was stationed at a launchpad and reported to Claw that Gadget and co were about to board a space shuttle to the Moon. Claw ordered Abdul to eliminate Gadget and he began to drive his forklift at the Gadget Van (converted to be a moon buggy) at great speed. Gadget extended the van's new Gadget lifters so that the vehicle could be lifted onto the fork lift more easily, but Abdul shot through the lifter legs with his vehicle and crashed into some crates. He ended up stuck in a wind sock. Abdul was given another chance by Claw and managed to sneak aboard the space shuttle. Neglecting to take a seat, Abdul was thrown against the back wall of the shuttle by space turbulence. After recovering, he floated up to Gadget and ask him to help in the aft compartment. Abdul pushed Gadget into a compartment which could open up into space and told Capeman to push the red button if he needed to speak to his friend. Capeman pushed it, and mistook it for a firedrill when an alarm went off. Thinking he had accomplished his goal, Abdul was not seen again during this mission.[15]
A clip of Abdul and Lenny attempting to assassinate Inspector Gadget by throwing a bomb at him while he was playing a relaxing game of tennis in his yard was shown at a Police Convention in honor of Gadget.[16]
