The Black Devil was a robot panther used by Dr. Claw and his field agent Jungle Bob in Inspector Gadget.

History[]
The Black Devil was a large robot panther capable of running and jumping at great speeds and letting out a terrifying roar.
Jungle Bob of the M.A.D. Jungle division used the Black Devil to scare off all the inhabitants of a small African village, so that Dr. Claw could have the oil rich land it was located on all to himself.
When Inspector Gadget investigated the village, his niece Penny took an immediate distrust of their "guide", Jungle Bob, and noticed him using a large computer equipped with a large radar in one of the larger village huts. Bob located Gadget and dispatched the Black Devil to the Inspector's location. Penny's dog Brain, who was disguised as a jungle native at the time, was the first to spot the Black Devil, and fainted as the menacing beast glared at him. The Devil then confronted Gadget, who escaped by swinging through the trees using his extended Gadget Arms. The Black Devil chased the Inspector, and caught up with him at a river bank. Gadget felt he had no time to play with a 'kitty' and decided to ignore him. He then attempted to pose like a flamingo, hoping the 'Kitty' would leave him alone and go away.
Back in the village, Penny used Jungle Bob's computer to take control of the Black Devil, stopping it from pounding on her uncle and sending it back the other way. After reuniting, Penny and Brain were trapped in a metal cage by Jungle Bob. Penny used her watch to call the Black Devil to them and had it bite through the bars of the cage with its steel jaws. Penny then climbed onto the Black Devil's back and told Brain to join her, despite the fact that the dog still felt faint every time he saw the mechanical creature. Together they headed towards the large oil drill, where Bob was surprised to see the Black Devil was no longer under his command. Penny made the Devil roar in Bob's face. Then the oil erupted out of the ground, catapulting Inspector Gadget into the air and landing on top of Bob. Immediately after that, Chief Quimby arrived with a local police officer, and the oil covered Agent 063 was taken into custody.
Out of sight of the others, Penny used her watch to turn off the Black Devil for good, but not before it let out one last roar, frightening everyone nearby. The Devil breathed fire, then turned upside down and switched off. Inspector Gadget, still soaked in oil, walked up to the robot and put his Gadget Cuffs around it's front paws, arresting it on the grounds of not wearing a leash.
