Personality[]

History[]

Bruce was on guard outside Dr. Claw's fortress in India. He contacted Dr. Claw to inform him about Inspector Gadget's arrival. Using a wooden facade that resembled a booth, Bruce asked the Inspector if he could help him. When Gadget asked him if he had seen a little guy with a ruby in his turban, Bruce told him to cross a long rope bridge. He then used a curved knife to cut one side of the bridge. However, Brain grabbed on to both ends of the rope to keep the bridge steady. Bruce attacked Brain with the knife, but both slipped. Bruce fell into the water below while Brain managed to hold on to the bridge as it swung towards the other side. There he managed to climb up and follow Gadget, who had crossed safely and not noticed the bridge collapsing at all.[1]

When Dr. Claw planned to abduct Rick Rocker, Bruce posed as a photographer backstage. He asked to take Gadget's picture and managed to position him under a large sandbag with the intend to knock Gadget out with it. But when Brain pushed the Inspector out of the way, Bruce lunged forward and was hit by the bag himself, and knocked out. Later, when Gadget entered M.A.D. Music's headquarters, Claw ordered Fred, Pops and Bruce to guard all exits.[2]

Bruce and Fred were stationed in Peru to assist the M.A.D. Archaeologist at the temple of gold. Together they tricked Inspector Gadget into thinking night has fallen prematurely. Iside the temple they replaced gold blocks with lightweight fakes, so they could steal the actual gold for Dr. Claw. The real gold blocks were sent to a grinding machine using a slide, and because of their weight, Bruce and Fred often had to work together to deposite each block.[3]

Bruce and Fred posed as members of a movie crew that was supposedly filming a motion picture set in medieval times, but in reality they were only filming footage of a nearby Top-Secret military installation. The helped to fit Inspector Gadget into the costume of a knight and then carried him to set. Later that night, they showed the M.A.D. Director the footage that had been filmed that day. In a final attempt to get rid of Gadget, Bruce attached Gadget to a crane and hoisted him up into the air. Gadget was supposed to be dropped on a several rows of spikes, but ended up knocking out all of the M.A.D. agents on set with his fall instead.[4]

Lenny and Fred posed as mechanics to tamper with Chief Quimby's new Crime Computer. Later, they monitored and manipulated the computer from inside an armored M.A.D. vehicle parked next to the police station. When Inspector Gadget made an uneducated attempt to fix the computer, Lenny and Fred put on a flimsey disguise consisting of a cap and dungarees that they wore over their M.A.D. uniforms. They picked up Gadget and threw him aside, but he used his Water pistol on them, as well as the computer, which short circuited. The two M.A.D. Agents angrily walked towards Gadget, but he trapped them by inflating his Gadget Coat. When Chief Quimby arrived, Lenny and Fred were arrested.[5]

Bruce and Abdul set out to rob the Metro City bank and other establishments when Dr. Claw took control of Chief Quimby's crime computer. They were arrested after Inspector Gadget caused the computer to malfunction. [6]

Stationed at the Greenfinger Institute, Bruce was wearing a standard M.A.D. uniform when he noticed a young girl caught in dangerous clining vinves. He cut her lose using a pair of plyers, and took her where Mr. Greenfinger was being kept prisoner. He tied and gagged the girl next to the professor, but they were eventually freed by a waiter (Brain in disguise). Meanwhile Bruce was busy louding the growth formula onto the M.A.D. Blimp. He was surprised when Inspector Gadget innocently offered to help loading the formula onto the blimp. When Gadget grabbed onto a cable hanging from the blimp, fearing they had forotton one of the barrels, Bruce and Dick tried to stop him, but ended up jumping into the river. They were arrested by Quimby's men after the police arrived on the scene.[7]

Bruce was undercover as a first mate on a large tanker when Inspector Gadget was brought aboard. After eavesdropping on Gadget through a keyhole, Bruce contacted Dr. Claw to tell him the boat just picked up "Some guy in a trench coat". Bruce was ordered to get rid of Gadget, and sent the Captain off the bridge by claiming there was a call for him bellow deck. He then tried to dispose of Gadget by shooting him overboard with a water cannon, but the Inspector used his Gadget 'Copter and was soon standing next to Bruce again, startling him. Next, Bruce pushed Gadget into oil tank number five before changing into his disguise as a Bermuda sea creature. He then took the Tankers controls and sailed right into the mist that hid a large M.A.D. submarine that swallowed the tanker whole. Still in disguise, Bruce used a bullhorn to order his fellow M.A.D. Agents (also in disguise) to release the sleeping crewmembers of the tanker in a lifeboat. The submarine then sank to add the tanker to it's collection in the caves below. Bruce ordered his men to start pumping the oil out while he reported to Claw personally. Claw adressed Bruce as "Captain" and congratulated him on his excellent work. When Bruce told Claw that Gadget was still in tank number five, Claw was less pleased, and became even more so when he realized Gadget had escaped. [8]

Bruce was one of three M.A.D. Agents answering to Professor Easewell, who had set up a laboratory inside a large South African diamond mine. Together with Dick and Fred, he was called into the Professor's office, wearing a full M.A.D. uniform but no shoes, and was given an invisibility suit made of diamond dust to disguise himself as a ghost. The three agents had troube adapting to their invisibility and kept bumping into each other. But when they confronted Inspector Gadget, each of them managed to grab a large rock with the intention of throwing it at the Inspector. However, Gadget activated his Gadget 'Copter and managed to elude them. The agents threw their rocks and hit each other instead. Gadget then lost control of his copter because of the mine's ceiling, inadvertedly extended his Arms and Legs, hitting the Agents and knocking the diamond dust off their suits, thus turning them visible again. Shortly after this, the three agents and the professor were arrested by the local police and taken away.[9]

Bruce was ordered to make sure Inspector Gadget never made it from Metro City to the North Pole. Claiming to work for "Frigit North Sporting Goods", Bruce drove up to the Inspector's house in a yellow van and told him his company would like him to test some of their new equipment. He handed Gadget two bombs, which he called "Rocket Boosters" and put them on the hood of Gadget's car. He then attached a set of "Grabber Snow Tires" to the Gadgetmobile's back wheels for those icy arctic roads. These tires came equiped with the M.A.D. Logo and just like the rockets had timebombs at their center. Upon leaving, Gadget decided to glue the rockets down, but his glue gun hit the back of Bruce's van instead. Gadget then put his car in the wrong gear, bumped into the back of the van and got it stuck to the rear of the Gadgetmobile. Bruce did not seem to mind being dragged along by Gadget, as it meant he would get a good look when the bombs went off. But when Gadget decided to turn on his radio, he accidentally launched the rocket bombs at Bruce's van. The bombs blew a hole in the van's roof, leaving Bruce smoking and dazed in the drivers seat. Gadget then drove down hill. Noticing a casm, he employed the Gadgetmobile's overdrive and shot into the air. This caused the two vehicles to separate, and the two bomb tires popped off the Gadgetmobile and exploded when they hit Bruce's van. The van got blown into the air, flipped, and ended up stuck in the casm. This had the side effect of it being able to serve as a bridge for Penny and her dog, who were following Gadget by sled. Bruce remained stuck in the drivers seat, albeit upside down.[10]

Bruce and Dick served as crewmembers on Captain Malcolm's cruise ship, which organized a Pirate Island Fun Tour exclusively for billionares. After picking up Inspector Gadget, his niece Penny and their dog Brain from their sinking ship, Bruce and Dick were sent down to the engine room to get rid of Gadget, who had volunteered to fix the ship's 'broken engine'. They deposited Brain in a torpedo shute and fired it, not realizing it was heading for Pegleg Peg's pirate boat by mistake.

Soon, the billionaires had all been transferred to the Pirate ship, tied to the mast and were being persuaded to sign over all of their belongings to Pegleg Peg. However, they still thought the pirates were putting on a show, and that Inspector Gadget, who arrived using his Gadget 'Copter, was participating as well. Gadget and Brain ended up sitting high upon one of the ship's masts, while Dick and Bruce climbed up to get him from one side, while Pops and another M.A.D. Pirate did the same from the other side. When Gadget announced they were nearing an island they decided to take all the captives on land instead.

On Pirate Island, Gadget escaped from being forced into an alligator pit and Bruce, Dick, Pops and the other pirate were all sent after him. When Brain stole the documents the billionaires had signed to give their fortunes to Dr. Claw and became the agent's next target. At one point, Gadget tripped, flew into the air, hit Bruce and knocked him into a coconut tree. He was knocked out by a falling coconut to the head, and 'captured' by a female billionaire.[11]

Bruce became one of the students at Dr. Claw's M.A.D. Academy, and was referred by Claw as one of his 'kids'. Before classes properly started, Abdul was wearing a standard M.A.D. uniform and armwrestling at a table with Abdul. When Claw ordered Agent No 3 to flip the control switch, Bruce changed into a school uniform. Claw then asked the class to repeat their school motto "We hate Gadget".[12]

When M.A.D. opened the New Foods Dairy company, Bruce was one of several M.A.D. Agents driving vans filled with milk around Metro City. He wore a white milkman's uniform as he did so. Back at the M.A.D. dairy farm, Bruce asked Squirt to give him a hand. Squirt agreed to help, leaving his own truck door open for Penny to slip out unnoticed.[13]

Bruce was stationed at M.A.D.'s High View hotel, located at the top of Everest Island in the South Pacific. Wearing diving gear, he and several other M.A.D. Agents had been blasting away the support of the island underwater. By the time all of the support was gone, the island would sink to the bottom of the ocean, leaving only the top, including High View hotel, above water. All the other resorts would sink and be destroyed, leaving only M.A.D. in the luxury hotels business on Everest island. He and Dick were dressed as miners and were told by Ricardo, the hotel manager, to move the explosives away from the elevator. When Ricardo send the last shipment of explosives down in an elevator to destroy the island's foundation, Penny used her computer book to send the elevator and the explosives back up. The High View hotel exploded instead and Dick was catapulted into the air. He landed safely in the sea, but was immediately arrested by the Chief Quimby and members of the local police.[14]

Bruce posed as a laundry truck driver to break the last two members of the Funny Money Counterfeiting gang, Squint and Inky, out of jail. He reported back to Claw while parked outside the wall of the jail, where the two inmates were supposed to be waiting on the other side. Bruce noticed the arrival of Inspector Gadget and his Gadget Van. Gadget used his Gadget Legs to walk over the wall, where Inky told him he had to check his car for fear of receiving a ticket. Ever helpful, Gadget grabbed Inky by the arm and, using his legs again, helped him over the wall and dropped him in the open laundry truck. Bruce quickly drove off, with Dr. Claw commenting that they would get Squint later.[15]

From Hollywood, California, Bruce reported back to Claw on a communicator shaped like the M.A.D. symbol tagged to his collar. He and Lenny were tasked to kidnap Fang the Wonder Dog. Lenny was supposed to grab the famous dog, after which Bruce would use sleeping gas on Fang. But Fang moved too fast for them. Lenny was knocked out after receiving a door to the face and when Bruce pursued Fang, he ran right out a window. While Fang landed in a pool as planned, Bruce managed to grab onto a window sil and pulled himself up when director Miles Millions noticed him and called for the security guard. Bruce and Lenny got away in an armored van. Dr. Claw gave the two agents one last chance to grab Fant. For his next scene, Fang was to run down an alley, jumped onto a parked van and into the back of a parked truck. Nobody knew that Bruce and Lenny were hiding in the back of the truck. They used a net to catch Fang, knocked him out with sleeping gas, and drove off. Claw ordered them to hide the dog in the Ghost Town set. They were unaware that Brain, posing as a fan, had placed a tracker on Fang's collar, and that Penny was homing in on it. Claw told his agents that one of them should stay with the dog while the other took care of Gadget. Bruce volunteered to go get Gadget and left the game of cards he and Lenny were playing.

Finding Gadget in a Roman Colloseum set, he quickly put on a gladiator costume and tried to skewer Gadget with a trident, but was stopped by Brain, who ran over him on a cart carrying a cannon, which crashed into a fake wall, taking Bruce along. Bruce recovered and attacked again, but ended up colliding with a lion that Gadget had released by mistake. Next, Gadget wandered into a large recreation of a medieval castle. Bruce dressed up as an executioner. But he lost his ax on his first attempt to get rid of Gadget. After retrieving the ax from a wall in which it was stuck, he tried again, but this time Brain grabbed the weapon away from him. Bruce then tried to push Gadget into a pit with Piranha fish, but missed and ende up swinging on a large wrecking ball, before falling into the pit himself. His life was saved by the Inspector, who grabbed him by the leg using his Gadget Cuffs. Bruce then led Gadget into a room and began turning a wheel that made a spiked wall move at the Inspector. Gadget escaped from the room using his laser finger, and the door hit Bruce in the face.

A short while later, Gadget walked onto a war movie set, and Bruce, dressed as a soldier, fired a tank at the Inspector. Once again Brain made sure Gadget was pushed out of harms way. Bruce drove the tank at Gadget straight through the set of a ruined house. Brain jumped on top of the tank and blocked the viewport with an army helmet he had been wearing. This caused Bruce to drive aimlessly through several other movie sets, including a Greek drama and a Keystone cops comedy. Claw kept ordering Bruce to get Gadget, so, despite some dizzyness, he got out of the tank and proceeded to Gadget on foot. Meanwhile, Lenny had mistakenly lid the building Fang was being kept in on fire. Bruce joined Lenny, both wearing flame resistant outfits and carrying large nets, to catch Fang on the roof of the burning building. But Fang jumped off, landing safely in a pool, and the two Agents stumbled backwards when Inspector Gadget arrived on the scene, by way of his Gadget 'Copter. They fell off the building and into the pool, where they were swiftly arrested by Chief Quimby and his men.[16]

Working backstage at the popular game show Quiz Master, Bruce grabbed a blonde little girl after M.A.D. Cat spotted her snooping around. He deposited her in a giant sized glass (made of plastic) in the prop room on the orders of Dr. Claw. Bruce worked the spotlights in the studio when The Quiz Master announced that "the man dressed as the police inspector" would be the next contestant. When Brain, dressed as in a carrot costume, tried to help Inspector Gadget on stage, Bruce grabbed the dog and threw him head first through a stage wall.[17]

Bruce, Dick and Abdul were aiding the M.A.D. Ninja in stealing all the gold from the Metro City Mint. They managed to trap Inspector Gadget in a large safe with a bomb, and waited for the arrival of a M.A.D. helicopter on the roof. When Corporal Capeman arrived on the roof, chasing Brain, he recognized the Agents as villains and tried to put them under arrest. He managed to fend them off thanks to Brain's help. Then several Police Helicopters arrived instead. The Ninja escaped, but the other three agents were arrested and Capeman took the credit for their capture.[18]

Bruce was stationed at the Metro City Impound Yard for the fourth of eight crimes to celebrate M.A.D.'s eight anniversary. Corporal Capeman had the Gadgetmobile towed to the impound yard for parking next to a fire hydrant. Bruce, manning a crane, and was all set to crush Gadget's car (with the Inspector and Capeman inside). He was foiled by Brain, who pushed Bruce out of the crane's cabin. Gadget got out of his mobile and told him to be more careful when parking cars.[19]

Bruce and Fred posed as ambulance attendants, driving a special van which could transform to resemble an ambulance. They drove up to the Gadget House, where the Inspector and his assistant were working out in the backyard. Bruce fed a projectile shaped like Claw's claw holding a pair of scissors into a special bazooka, which was then fired by Fred. The scissors cut a rope on which Capeman was hanging, and he fell to the ground. Gadget used his Top-Secret Gadget Phone to call for an ambulance, and the two agents promptly drove onto his lawn. They put Capeman on a stretcher and drove him, accompanied by Gadget, to Noodleman's Clinic. To enter the clinic by a secret entrance, they used sleeping gas on the passengers to ensure they remained unaware of the clinic's exact location. After depositing their 'patients' out of the back of the ambulance and down a hole in the ground, the two law enforcers were strapped into wheelchairs. Bruce and Fred pushed them into a room where they were allowed to come to. The two agents then returned, and Gadget asked them to give him and Capeman the full treatment, which Bruce and Fred ensured them they would. They wheeled their patents to another room, and strapped them to tables where Noodleman prepared to fire a Gadget Neutrolizer ray at the Inspector. However, Gadget managed to evade all of the rays being fired at him and aimed it at the controls by mistake, wrecking the instruments. Noodleman then told Bruce and Fred to transfer Gadget and Capeman to the physical therapy room before the entire place was wrecked.

Bruce hooked the Inspector up to a device which began to stretch out his Gadget Legs. Gadget found it tickled him and encouraged Dr. Noodleman to give him all he got. To his surprise, Noodleman realized that the Gadget legs were near indestructable. The Inspector was quite enjoying himself while the machinery in the control room began to short circuit. When Corporal Capeman catapulted through the window and crashed into Gadget, the machinery was completely destroyed. After this, Noodleman told Fred to put Gadget in Unit B. Gadget was brought to a room to have a steambath and enter a whirlpool. This atempt on his life was foiled when Corporal Capeman was thrown into the whirlpool as well, thanks to Brain (disguised as a nurse).

Bruce and Fred then strapped Gadget to an operating table in another room, but Gadget demanded that Capeman would be allowed to witness the final test. Fred fetched the Corporal accordingly. Noodleman bypassed Gadget's voice control, which made them go haywire. They put dark glasses over Gadget's eyes so that he didn't notice his gadgets malfunctioning. Once again Brain intervened, and caused the machine, which swung an ax and a spiked mace at Gadget, to go haywire. Both Bruce and Fred escaped from the room unharmed, but soon found themselves arrested by Chief Quimby and his men after they arrived on the scene. [20]

In a news report, Bruce and Dick were seen lying defeated on the ground with Capeman jumping on top of them victoriously after Gadget and Capeman thwarted a M.A.D. plot to kidnap world's wealthiest siamese twins[21]

Bruce was one of several Agents who were posted at TV Station 3 from which Dr. Spectrum operated his Dream Machine. Bruce was packing Dr. Spectrum's Dream Away Machines as soon as they rolled off the assembly line. When Lenny, who operated the machine that produced the devices was startled by Gadget, he accidentally caused the machine's cutting lasters to go haywire. Bruce and several other Agents ran away from the machine as fast as they could.[22]
