Inspector Gadget Wiki

Chameleon is a character in Inspector Gadget. He was a M.A.D. Agent and a master of disguise. When using a disguise, the only giveaway would be his googly red eyes.

Physical Description[]

Chameleon is a middle-aged bald man with thin bushy grey eyebrows and red irises. His eyes tend to look in different directions. He wears various disguises throughout the episode. He speaks in a raspy voice.

Personality[]

True to his name, Chameleon's eyes are shown to always be looking in separate directions like that of a real chameleon, and is a master of camouflage like a real chameleon blends into his surroundings to protect itself from predators. However, he is loyal to Dr. Claw and the M.A.D. organisation as he helps to try and eliminate Gadget through various means, with Gadget none the wiser of Chameleon's allegiance to Dr. Claw.

History[]

Agent Chameleon was stationed in Tibet. While hiding in a large pot, Chameleon was instructed by Dr. Claw to stop Gadget from reaching the weather village on Mount Makalu, to which the agent replied "Have no fear, Chameleon is here".

He started to follow Gadget, but when the Inspector reached a bridge, Chameleon managed to get ahead of him and use an elaborate disguise shaped like a full-sized ox that was part of a group of three pack animals. When Gadget began to cross the bridge, Chameleon stuck his hand out of the fake ox's mouth and used a flamethrower to burn the ropes holding the bridge in place. Just before he cut the rope snapped, Chameleon, in his ox disguise, was bumped from behind by Brain who had been sliding downhill with no way to stop himself. The Ox, with Chameleon still inside, was pushed into the ravine just as the bridge collapsed. Gadget, however, had already reached the other side safe and sound. Chameleon, as the ox, ended up tangled in the ropes hanging from what was left of the bridge, uttering "curses!"

Chameleon's next attempt saw him posing as a fancy restaurant patron, wearing a white tuxedo with a red bowtie to match his eyes. Standing on a pier, he loudly advertised the "best Yak-steak meal in Tibet". Gadget, was walking past and was feeling hungry, so Chameleon told him to enter a floating restaurant inside a covered boat. As soon as the Inspector had entered, Chameleon cast off the boat in the direction of a large waterfall, while he himself stayed behind. A yak (actually Brain in disguise) stopped the boat from going over the falls, and Gadget got out. Chameleon observed from behind a barrel, saying that Gadget had more lives than a cat.

He then put on native Tibetan clothing and pretended to have a message for the Inspector from his Chief. They were supposed to meet at the Temple of the Rahamaja (Temple of the Yeti), and handed him a piece of paper with the password "Kulu Bulo Rahamaja". He told the Inspector it meant "Take me to your Chief", but in actuality it meant "I am taking over the temple". Gadget sped towards the temple using his Rocket Skates while Chameleon informed Dr. Claw. When Dr. Claw inquired if the trap was set, Chameleon informed him that Gadget will never escape the Temple of the Yeti, before explaining what the message really meant, leaving Claw and Chameleon laughing wickedly at how it looked like Gadget was done for and would never reach Mount Makalu and Professor Mongul's weather machine at M.A.D.'s base there.
