Personality[]

True to his name, the Clockmaker is an insane man and prone to laughing manically and rolls his "Rs" when he speaks.

Physical Description[]

The Clockmaker is an elderly, skinny and bald man with white hair sticking out at the side, a long moustache and long nose. He wears a yellow short-sleeved shirt with a brown sleeveless vest, matching trousers and shoes and purple-tinted rectangular frameless glasses.

History[]

Located in his native Switzerland, the Cuckoo Clockmaker ran a large factory/workshop in the center of a town near the alps. The building was adorned with a large clock that featured automated figures that used hammers to ring the bell each hour. Below the clock was a golden crest which not only featured an image of the Clockmaker's face, but also a set of swing-open doors from which a replica of his face, painted to resemble the real thing, would appear on a spring to shriek like a bird on the hour.

The Clockmaker was hired by Dr. Claw to organize the robbery of the Swiss gold reserve. The gold was kept in an impenetrable vault with a time lock in a Swiss bank, and with the help of Dr. Claw's men, the Clockmaker managed to empty the entire vault without anyone noticing and before the arrival of Inspector Gadget, his niece Penny and their dog Brain. The gold was taken to the Clockmaker's factory, where it was melted down. Some of it was made into large clockwork and gears, and all of it would be ready for storage after being processed. Dr. Claw congratulated the Clockmaker on a job well done and told him to get rid of Gadget, which the Clockmaker saw as a challenge.

Penny used her computer book to determine that the vault's timer had been tampered with, and realized that Claw had hired a specialist to do this. Meanwhile, her uncle noticed his watch needed fixing and visited the Clockmaker's factory. The Clockmaker had prepared for this, and had created a special watch for Gadget that had a built-in device that set off his Gadgets randomly on the hour. When Gadget and Brain walked into the shop, he was surprised that the Clockmaker knew his name. The Clockmaker quickly came up with an excuse, saying he, and many other people in Switzerland, were big fans of the Inspector and asked him for an autograph. He then presented Gadget with his special watch, which the inspector gladly accepted. Once outside, each time the clock struck on the hour, Gadget's gadgets went haywire.

Having found nothing in the other clock factories in town, Penny arrived in the Clockmaker's factory only to find it empty. The Clockmaker was busy overseeing the processing of the gold by Claw's men in the back. But Dr. Claw noticed Penny on his video feed and informed the Clockmaker, telling him to eliminate the spy that was snooping around the factory. M.A.D. agent Fred grabbed the little girl and tied her to a chair. The Clockmaker boasted to her that he had created something very special for an occasion such as this. Penny was taken to a special room that featured a large contraption to meet her end. Along the way, she noticed that the golden gears were being used for a large clockwork machine. She herself was tied to a torturing device shaped like a giant version of the Clockmaker wielding a hammer bearing the symbol of M.A.D. The Clockmaker explained that she would be crushed by the hammer when the clock struck five. He was then called to his computer terminal by Claw, who told him to take care of Gadget or Claw would take care of the Clockmaker. The Clockmaker stuck out his tongue and put his fingers in his ears at Claw, but only when he is certain that Claw couldn't see it.

Gadget and Brain returned to the factory to ask if the Clockmaker might be able to fix his malfunctioning Gadgets. The Clockmaker took the Inspector to his special workshop and had Lenny tie the Inspector to the large golden gears. In order to do this, Gadget's arms, legs and neck were stretched out, leaving him hanging spread eagle. At his computer terminal, the Clockmaker activated the gears, and Gadget's elongated limbs began to curl around the gears. Penny managed to call for help, and Brain helped her escape the Clockmaker's trap in the nick of time. But when the clock struck five, Gadget's gadgets went haywire once more. These included his Gadget Mallet, which inadvertently broke off one of the gears, causing the entire clock to malfunction both inside the factory and on the facade with the bell outside. The Clockmaker was dismayed when the hammer wielding figures began to damage the clock outside, and the walls of the tower started to crack.

Penny and Brain worked together to free her Uncle Gadget from the gears. They headed for the exit, but had to go through the Clockmaker's Cuckoo room first. In this room, a row of cuckoo clocks hung on the wall, and were able to launch projectiles on spears into targets on the wall opposite. Gadget and Penny made it through without a scratch, but Brain had to duck and crawl most of the way to get to the other side. By this time, the entire building was falling apart, and the three escapees bumped into the Clockmaker as he ran out of the room with his computer console. Gadget and the Clockmaker rolled down a flight of stairs, while the clock tower collapsed on itself, spilling its golden gears onto the ground in front of the factory. Chief Quimby and a consignment of the local police were just in time to witness this. Then the Clockmaker, Gadget, Penny and Brain exited the building, quite shook up and moving like clockwork figures themselves. Quimby congratulated Gadget on a job well done, and the Clockmaker was arrested by the local police. Still walking with a ticktock gait, he stumbled right into a pair of handcuffs being held open for him.
