Dr Claw's Castle

This castle was Dr. Claw's primary residence and base of operation, thus also making it the headquarters of M.A.D. There is often a thunderstorm brewing outside the castle, adding to the sinister atmosphere. Dr. Claw is known to have multiple castles around the world.

Physical appearances of known locations[]

The castle in Winterland is atop a snowy mountain, made of light brown stone with blue roofs on the spires, of which five are visible. Dr. Claw's office has a gigantic fireplace with a video screen above it and a door on either side of it. His desk is situated in front of the fireplace, in between identical windows, with a chandelier above it.

The castle in Transylvania is atop a craggy mountain, in the form of a cube with spires on each corner and a single tower on one side. Dr. Claw's office is a circular room bathed in golden torchlights. The door leading to and from it appears to be to his right.

The castle in Belgium is identical to the one in Transylvania from the outside; however, Dr. Claw's office more closely resembles that of the Winterland location, albeit less well-lit due to an apparent lack of windows. The design principles are otherwise the same, though the fireplace is taller, the video screen is a bit higher up, and there appears to be no chandelier.

Dr. Claw has seven castles known to be in the general area of Metro City, two of which are virtually identical to the Winterland location from the outside except with less snow on the mountaintop. One castle has Dr. Claw's office, also perfectly identical to that of the Winterland location, except without a chandelier, while the office in the other castle has two pairs of windows side by side instead of one, with the desk in between a pair of windows further from the doors, and no fireplace between the doors. The door to Dr. Claw's left is also replaced with a secret passage which the Rat uses to enter and exit the office. A third castle is located atop a different mountain close to the launch site, with an exterior identical to the Transylvania location and Dr. Claw's office being in a square room bathed in green light with tiles all over. His desk in this office is positioned so that it faces an elevator door, similar to that seen in his office at the M.A.D. Mountain location. A fourth castle resembles the one in the British Isles from the outside, with Dr. Claw's office resembling the one in the Belgium castle, except with no video screen visible. The sole entrance appears to be a sliding door with a false wood and metal finish on the right side of the fireplace. A fifth castle is exactly identical to the Winterland location on the outside, complete with snow surrounding it, and Dr. Claw's office is bathed in a single blue spotlight. A sixth castle is also identical to the British Isles location on the outside, with Dr. Claw's office being identical to that of the Winterland location, complete with chandelier. A seventh castle has an unseen exterior, and Dr. Claw's office features a window to the left of his desk and a prominent column in the corner also to its left. There also appears to be a fireplace that never appears in the shot.

The M.A.D. Mountain castle itself has a unique exterior with five visible golden spires. Dr. Claw's office is situated atop a concrete platform with a walkway, surrounded by a pit of spikes. It is accessible by an elevator. Beneath it is a train station which is used for deliveries to the castle.

The castle in Dry Gulch is identical to the one in Transylvania from the outside, and Dr. Claw's office is similar to the one in the Belgium location, but with a different fireplace design and warmer lighting.

The castle in the British Isles is located atop a snowy mountain like the one in Winterland, but with the roofs of the spires now silver instead of light blue. The exterior has four visible spires, with a smaller extension with its own roof connected to the tallest spire. Dr. Claw's office has a small window to the left of his desk, as well as a fireplace and a single door.

The castles in the Arabian Peninsula and the Caribbean have no known identifying features save for the desk in Dr. Claw's office facing a fireplace.

Another castle, in an as-yet unidentified location, has another unique design, with fewer spires, topped with red roofs. This castle sits atop a clearly rugged mountain. Dr. Claw's office is similar to that of the first Metro City location, but with "MAD" painted in yellow above the video screen.

The castle in Greece is identical to the one in the British Isles, and Dr. Claw's office has no visible identifying features except that there is no real light source save for a single window to the right of his desk.

Dr. Claw's castle atop Mount Makalu has another unique exterior, and his office is the most high-tech yet, with computer screens all around and "MAD" painted in orange above his desk.

There is another castle with an office that resembles the one seen in the fourth Metro City location, except with a somewhat narrower interior and without the array of red lights above the fireplace. It is unknown whether it's the same castle as the one in the Arabian Peninsula.

A castle in a third unidentified location has an exterior resembling the one in the British Isles, with Dr. Claw's office resembling the one in his first Metro City castle.

History[]

Located on top of a narrow mountain in Transylvania, the castle originally belonged to Count Dracula. Dr. Claw first used the castle as a base of operations when a Law Enforcement Convention was being held in the Transylvanian mountains. Claw found the nasty Transylvanian atmosphere to be good for his health. Claw had the road leading up to the castle booby-trapped with large spikes that could be activated by the touch of one button on his computer by M.A.D. Cat. Several of the towers were equipped with laser cannons that could be fired by Claw's computer. Three M.A.D. Agents, disguised as a Vampire, Wolfman and Frankenstein's monster were also stationed in the castle to scare of any unwanted visitors. However, Inspector Gadget, his niece, and their dog managed to expose them, and soon the police arrived on the scene and arrested the M.A.D. Agents. Claw himself managed to escape in his M.A.D. Mobile by having it launch from the center of the castle in its jet mode.[1]

Some time later, Claw took up residence in a similar looking castle located in Belgium. He oversaw an operation in Peru from the castle.[2]

Lana Lamour was instructed to take care of Gadget at Dr. Claw's Castle outside of Metro City. She was allowed a seat next to his desk. She later reported back to him by video screen, while seated in her trailer on set.[3]

Claw also oversaw the planting of a bomb at an amusement park near Metro City in order to receive a hefty ransom from the safety of the same castle.[4]

Master of disguise Presto Change-O fooled M.A.D. Cat by impersonating Dr. Claw in his British Isles castle. Dr. Claw was not amused to find Presto in his seat when he entered his chambers. Claw told Change-O to take Gadget's place and attend the annual police security conference in London. Claw remained in contact with Presto Chang-O during this mission before leaving for London himself in his M.A.D. sub.[5]

Claw plotted to get rid of Inspector once and for all with help from the Rat, who snuck into Claw's second Metro City castle after being called. Claw instructed the Rat to leave a M.A.D. calling card at the site of each crime. Rat reported back to Claw at this castle once during the mission, before Claw and M.A.D. Cat left the castle for Metro City in the M.A.D. mobile.[6]

Dr. Claw hijacked a train carrying important computer parts and had it rerouted to his castle atop M.A.D. Mountain. When Gadget's niece re-hijacked the train and drove it away from the castle, Claw blew up a nearby bridge that led to his location. However, the train still made it safely to the other side thanks to Inspector Gadget, who extended himself to form a makeshift bridge.[7]

Rattlesnake Bart entered Dr. Claw's private chambers in his Dry Gulch castle on horseback and gave him a demonstration of his pistol skills, hitting the center of a coin with a laser pistol while grazing the top of M.A.D. Cat's head. Claw then gave Bart the assignment to rob the Wild West Tourist Town bank. Later, Claw and his cat left the castle in their M.A.D. Jet to head for the Tourist Town themselves.[8]

The M.A.D. Saboteur reported to Claw in person at another of his castles to tell him that only Inspector Gadget could keep him from flying the space shuttle, and that he knew how to take care of the Inspector. Claw added that the Saboteur should take care of Gadget for good.[9]

Fast Abdul dared to test Dr. Claw's patience by taking away his computer when he was looking the other way to prove just how fast he could be. Dr. Claw reminds Abdul he had a very short temper, leading Abdul to return the computer immediately. He was then told to make sure he was as quick as Inspector Gadget.[10]

The M.A.D. Scientist who created a robotic duplicate of Inspector Gadget demonstrated it in front of the raging fire in the main chamber of Dr. Claw's castle. Later, M.A.D. agents Dick and Fred were supposed to bring the real Gadget before Claw to the same location, but they brought Robo-Gadget by mistake.[11]

Dr. Stench reported to Claw personally at his castle, to boast about his plans to make all the gold in Metro City smell terrible. He also promised to get rid of Gadget.[12]

Trivia[]

  • While the castle in "All That Glitters", "Photo Safari", "Dutch Treat", and "Prince of the Gypsies" could be anywhere within a reasonable distance from Holland due to Dr. Claw making his way from there to a Dutch farm on a foggy night within a span of several hours, it's currently believed to be in Belgium due to the country being the most mountainous of the Low Countries in one part of it. Other proposed locations of that particular castle include France and Germany.
  • The fireplace and door in Dr. Claw's office at the British Isles location switch places from time to time, though always alternating between being in front of his desk and to its right, so at least there's some consistency in this particular continuity goof.
