Inspector Gadget Wiki

Dr. Spectrum is a character in Inspector Gadget.

Routine[]

He created Ghost Globules to send to rich people homes and make them pay him to get rid of them. He had trained two M.A.D. Agents, a male and a female to act as Ghost Catchers, and starred in his own TV advertisment for a company called "Ghost Catchers", saying that his catchers were available day or night to help people in need. He also used a bull horn on top of his van to do the same. However, when one of the rich people called the Ghost Catchers number, 500-GHOST, he also added that it would cost them a small fortune.

The latest target was a mansion where a costume ball was being held. When Inspector Gadget arrived at the mansion, Spectrum told the two agents to eliminate Gadget before the ghost arrived. Posting as the catering staff, the two agents tried to one-up each other. She suggested to poison his canapé. Pops asked Spectrum to be allowed to use an exploding cork on Gadget. Then the female agent says she'd dance the "Tango of Death" with the Inspector, which startled Pops, who admitted he couldn't bare to watch that. Spectrum ordered them to stop arguing and do all of those things.

The female agent appeared to have success with her Tango of Death, managing to push Gadget off a balcony. When they reported back to Spectrum, they began to argue again. Spectrum interrupted them and told them to get into their Ghost Catchers costumes, as he was about to release the Globules. He took two green pellets out of a box, blew on them, and the two Globules appeared. They entered the mansion, with Spectrum keeping track of them using tho antennas on top of his van. Gadget, who had survived the fall, grabbed one of the Ghost Catchers' spray guns while the two agents were busy fighting each other. Gadget managed to spray one of the ghosts and make it disappear on itself. The other Globule got scared, floated back to the van and got behind the wheel. Despite Spectrum's objections, the Globule started the van and drove off.[1]

Spectrum created a Phasor Gun capable of dematerializing matter at the molecular level. Spectrum has trained a squirrel to sneak into mansions and knock the telephone receiver of it's stand. Then M.A.D. Agent Lenny is teleported into the house by the landline, where he proceeds to transferred all the valuables right back to Claw's domain through the city's telephone circuits. A local telephone company was used by Spectrum as his headquarters. A secret room could be accessed by plucking a leaf off a rubber tree plant to open a sliding door. When Inspector Gadget found the secret entrance by chance (he was admiring the rubber tree) Spectrum had already been informed by Claw that the Inspector was on his way. Gadget asked for help. Spectrum replied he would be of service, and aimed the phasor gun at the Inspector. But Gadget moved too quickly and so frequently that Spectrum became frustrated at missing various shots. Brain, dressed as a telephone lineman, stole the phasor and made a run for it, but Gadget grabbed it back using his extending arms and handed it over to Spectrum. He finally managed to hit Gadget, but only after using a helicopter to chase the Inspector on the street.

When Penny entered the phone company and began to snoop around, she overheard Spectrum telling Lenny to erase the phone numbers so as not to leave any evidence. She followed the two agents as they took their telephone company van to their next target. Once again, Spectrum personally told the trained squirrel where to go and Lenny was teleported into the house via the telephoneline. But Spectrum noticed Penny hiding peeking in the windows and captured her. Inside the van, he told Lenny to hold the girl so he could use the phasor to send her to Dr. Claw. She kicked the device out of his hands, causing it to fire a beam and make part of the van disappear. Spectrum and Lenny than began struggling over the device, and in the process made sent most of the van to Claw's castle. Inspector Gadget arrived on the scene, took the Phasor gun and pressed the return button. This made all the stolen valuables return to Gadget's location. Spectrum tried to stop him but was too late. Realizing the game was up, Spectrum grabbed the phasor and used it on himself in order to escape.[2]

After this, Spectrum took over TV Station 3 together with TV personality Bert Sweetley. From there, he broadcast his latest invention, the Dream Machine, causing everyone in Metro City to get nightmares. Sweetley then began advertising the Dream Away Machine, which they claimed to eliminate all the nightmares. When Claw informed Spectrum that Gadget had entered the studio, Spectrum replied it would be his pleasure to get rid of the Inspector. He ordered Agents Dick and Jarvis to take care of Gadget immediately, but they felt they deserved a lunch break first. The agents finally managed to knock Gadget out, and Strap him to a helmet version of the Dream Machine. Gadget's gadgets began to go haywire, but Spectrum and Sweetley reported to Claw that everything was under control. Spectrum told Sweetley to turn up the power, but the machine began to overload and self-destruct. Spectrum led Sweetley to a secret passage way and both of them escaped from the station before Quimby and the police arrived.[3]
