Inspector Gadget Wiki

Fred is one of Dr. Claw's most prominently used agents in Inspector Gadget.

Routine[]

Fred is a M.A.D. agent who appears in various disguises on several missions.

Personality[]

Being the largest of Claw's regular agents, Fred sometimes gets stuck in doorways or other small entrances.

History[]

Together with Dick, Fred posed as a farm hand on a farm just outside Metro City which had been taken over by Dr. Claw. The large silo next to the farm housed a stolen missile that Claw intended to launch at Metro City. Fred was present when fellow agents opertating from the nearby General Store reported to Dr. Claw in person after failing to stop Inspector Gadget on route to the farm, even though Fred was not operating in the same location as them. When Inspector Gadget arrived at the farm, Fred and Dick tried to smother the Inspector by covering him in sheep as he lay on couch to take a nap. Later, they thought Gadget had realized they were M.A.D. Agents and tried to run away from him while in reality all Gadget wanted from them was some gas for his Gadgetmobile. After climbing up the silo, Fred noticed they were being chased by Brain, disguised as a hay bale. He picked up the dog and threw him off the silo. Fred then got stuck in the door at the top of the silo, but Dick pushed him through. Dick and Fred informed Dr. Claw that enemy agents (three police cars) had arrived on the scene, and were ordered to keep them out. While Dr. Claw continued the countdown to launch the warhead, Dick and Fred said they would try to keep the police out, but were unable to stop the police from entering the silo.[1]

Together with another, unidenfied agent, Fred posed as a scientist, wearing a white labcoat, while stationed at Dr. Claw's Aztec Temple base in the Amazon. The two agents awaited the arrival Inspector Gadget by M.A.D. Mobile and escorted him to laboratory where Professor von Slickstein was working.[2]

Fred and Lenny posed as health instructors at the Bide-A-Wee Health Spa. When Inspector Gadget visited their gym, having won a week's stay at the spa as a prize, they attached increasingly heavy weights for Gadget to benchpress. This plan backfired and the weights ended up on Fred and Lenny's heads. They then hoisted Gadget up in to the ceiling as he held on to a set of rings, and let him fall back to the floor. This time he was saved by his Gadget Brella. Later, Lenny turned up the heat inside a sauna Gadget was and locked into. Fred told Madame that Dr. Claw wanted to speak to her, and then explained to Lenny that the exceptionally strong door to the sauna had been built by his grandfather. However, Gadget repeatedly managed to break the door off it's hinges, even after Fred used extra wood to nail it shut. He and Lenny then tried to barricade the door with a large statue, but Brain moved it aside when they weren't looking. Later, Gadget mistook the M.A.D. torture chamber for an exercise room. Fred and Lenny began to stretch his arms and legs on a rack, but the Gadgets in the Inspector's limbs were too much for them once again.[3]

Fred stole the outfit of a sailor on a cruise ship and took his place in a hangmat the original sailor had been sleeping in. The man's outfit was several sizes too small for him. When Inspector Gadget boarded the ship wearing a disguise, Fred and Pops demanded to see his invitation. Fred got himself stuck in an air pipe on the deck of the ship, but Pops pulled him out. When they realized that Gadget had given them a laundry ticket instead of a real invitation, they threw him off the ship, back onto the harbour. After the ship had sailed, Fred caught a young girl snooping around. He grabbed her and reported her to Dr. Claw, who identified her as Gadget's niece. Fred locked her up in a cage in the boiler room. Soon, Claw ordered Fred to lighten the load of the ship by getting rid of the crew and the girl. But Inspector Gadget stumbled into the boiler room and knocked down several agents, including Fred. Gadget and his niece were tied up and taken aboard deck. When the girl received help from her dog, Fred and Lenny teamed up to grab them from both sides, but ended up knocking each other on the head. Dazed, they performed an impromptu ballet dance that ended with both of them jumping gracefully overboard.[4]

Fred disguised himself as Frankenstein's Monster at Dracula's Castle in order to scare off unwanted visitors. He captured Penny as she was snooping around, and joined a chase when fellow agent Squirt, disguised as a Wolfman, chased Brain towards him. But when Brain returned with a helmet's on his head, the two M.A.D. Agents became scared and ended up being chased around the cemetary by the dog instead. After Brain evaded the laserbeams that Dr. Claw started shooting from various towers, the police arrived on the scene and arrested the M.A.D. Agents.[5]

Fred posed as a mechanic with a large M.A.D. logo on his back and a smaller one on his chest at the Metropolis 500. Penny recognized him as a M.A.D. Agent immediately and told Brain to follow him. When Brain (also in mechanic's attire) reported to Penny that Fred was sabotaging the other cars, she told him to undo the sabotage. Fred noticed Gadget snooping around (actually following Brain) and reported to Dr. Claw, who decided to take care of Gadget himself. Fred added a phony piston bomb to racecar number 7. Brain took it out, but Gadget put it back in, causing the car to explode. During a break in the race, Fred and another agent were tending to the M.A.D. Mobile when Claw ordered Fred to get Gadget out of the way. Fred offered Gadget a soft drink which the Inspector accepted, not realizing it was filled with alcohol.[6]

When Dr. Claw planned to abduct Rick Rocker, Fred posed as Rick's drummer. He noticed Inspector Gadget backstage and informed Claw. When he was ordered to eliminate Gadget, Fred answered "Yes, sir, with pleasure". He asked for Gadget's autograph and gave him a pen which emitted knockout out gas from it's end, but ended inhaling the gas himself and slumped to the floor. Later, when Gadget entered M.A.D. Music's headquarters, Claw ordered Fred, Pops and Bruce to guard all exits.[7]

Fred and Bruce were stationed in Peru to assist the M.A.D. Archaeologist at the temple of gold. Together they tricked Inspector Gadget into thinking night has fallen prematurely. Iside the temple they replaced gold blocks with lightweight fakes, so they could steal the actual gold for Dr. Claw. The real gold blocks were sent to a grinding machine using a slide, and because of their weight, Bruce and Fred often had to work together to deposite each block.[8]

Fred and Bruce posed as members of a movie crew that was supposedly filming a motion picture set in medieval times, but in reality they were only filming footage of a nearby Top-Secret military installation. The helped to fit Inspector Gadget into the costume of a knight and then carried him to set. Later that night, they showed the M.A.D. Director the footage that had been filmed that day. In a final attempt to get rid of Gadget, Gadget was supposed to be dropped on a several rows of spikes, but ended up knocking out all of the M.A.D. agents on set with his fall instead.[9]

Fred and Dick dressed as moving men, albeit with M.A.D. logos on their caps and uniforms, and positions their moving van outside the New York Museum of Modern Art. After closing time, they began switching the art treasures for fakes (some of which were inflatable versions) and load the real stuff into their van. The two of them caught a little spy and put her inside a sculpture resembling a large eyeball for safekeeping. When Inspector Gadget happened upon them, Dick told the Inspector that he and Fred were secret police, and that they were replacing the real artwork with fakes so the collection would remain safe. Convinced they were colleagues, Gadget offered to help them. Thinking they left Gadget at the bottom of an elevator shaft, the agents proceeded in their moving van to their rendezvous point with Dr. Claw at the Statue of Liberty. When Dick spotted the Gadgetmobile following them, he told Fred to use the oil slick to stop his pursuit. However, Gadget, intend to bring another pice of art to his "colleagues", caught up to them by Gadget 'Copter at the statue and dropped on top of them, knocking both Fred and Dick out. Chief Quimby arrived in a helicopter moments later and arrested Fred and Dick.[10]

Fred was one of various Agents involved in Dr. Claw's Martian invation hoax. He first changed from a M.A.D. uniform into a Metro City police uniform to fool Inspector Gadget together with fellow agents Abdul and Lenny. They asked the Inspector for his autograph, and gave him a 0037B exploding pen to execute plan 4236. But when the three agents ran away, Gadget reached out one of his extendable Gadget Arms and returned the pen to one of their pockets, causing them to end up in the explosion. Later, Fred joined other M.A.D. agents dressed as Martians in robbing valuables all over Metro City. When Penny caused the M.A.D. spaceship to crashland in front of the Metro City police station, Fred ran out and gave himself up to the police after being scared by a "real" Martian (Inspector Gadget after bumping into some Martian costumes and some cans of paint).[11]

Fred disguised himself as a mummy inside Pharaoh Poot-Ta-Toot's tomb as it was being robbed by Dr. Claw's men. But he soon bumped into an actual mummy, suspiciously shaped like a dog. He ran towards his fellow agents Dick and Squirt, scaring them in the process, and told them about the little mummy. Dick and Fred trapped inspector Gadget between two sliding walls and were about to lower a large weight down on him, when they were scared off by a small canine mummy and ran off. The canine mummy proceeded to free Gadget from the trap. They then returned to fetch the sarcofagus, unaware that Inspector Gadget was now hiding inside. Together with Squirt, who had just had a run in of his own with the canine mummy, they began to carry the sarcofagus out, but put it down when a disembodied voice, apparently of Poot-Ta-Toot himself, began to scold them and told them they were cursed. When the lid of the sarcofagus started to move, all three agents ran straight for the pyramid's exit, where they were arrested by Chief Quimby's men. [12]

Fred was stationed at M.A.D. Mountain when Dr. Claw hijacked a train carrying computer parts and had it rerouted to his secret headquarters. Fred was ordered to open the doors and let de train in. Fred and several other Agents were told to get Inspector Gadget. Before they could do so, Penny re-hijacked the train using her computer book.[13]

Fred posed as a tourist on one of the Boha Boha islands. He crept up to Inspector Gadget with an orange spraycan filled with Dr. Claw's new sleeping gas. But Gadget was unaffected by the gas as he was standing on a ledge. The sound of the gas made him think a fly was attacking him, so he grabbed Dick's spraycan and srayed some of the gas in Dick's face. Instantly knocked out, Dick fell over the ledge, but was saved by the Inspector using his Gadget Arms. Gadget pulled Dick up and set him upright, causing to topple over the edge once more. Dick ended up hanging upside down in a tree, and was joined by Gadget some time later, when he also succumbed to the sleeping gas. Later, Fred was stationed on Dr. Claw's fake Island base together with fellow agents Dick and Pops. The entire set-up was a front to create large doses of a powerful sleeping gas. When Gadget dropped in on the island, Fred was ordered to cover the entire area to prevent Gadget's escape. The M.A.D. Agents used large leaves from the local fauna to protect their mouths and noses from inhaling the gas themselves. Gadget released all of the sleeping gas by mistake, and Fred was soon captured in a net by the police, fast asleep.[14]

Fred and Lenny posed as mechanics to tamper with Chief Quimby's new Crime Computer. Later, they monitored and manipulated the computer from inside an armored M.A.D. vehicle parked next to the police station. When Inspector Gadget made an uneducated attempt to fix the computer, Fred and Lenny put on a flimsey disguise consisting of a cap and dungarees that they wore over their M.A.D. uniforms. They picked up Gadget and threw him aside, but he used his Water pistol on them, as well as the computer, which short circuited. The two M.A.D. Agents angrily walked towards Gadget, but he trapped them by inflating his Gadget Coat. When Chief Quimby arrived, Fred and Lenny were arrested.[15]

Fred posed as an airport mechanic and was ordered by Claw to make sure Gadget never reached Africa. Fred brought the Inspector, Penny and Brain to a an old fashioned bi-plane, which was clearly falling apart. Ensuring Gadget that it would get him to where he was going, Fred had to hold up one of the wings and reattach the propellor when it fell off. Once Gadget took to the air, Fred reported back go Claw via Walkie Talkie, identifying himself as Agent One. He then had to duck when Gadget's plane almost hit him, as it dove down before heading back up again.[16]

Fred was stationed in the Cuckoo Clockmaker's factory where the stolen gold reserve was being melted and formed into clock gears. Fred grabbed Gadget's niece as she was snooping around, and tied her to a chair by the Clockmaker's command. Later, he tied the young girl to a machine that was intended to smash her with a large hammer when the clock struck five, and tied Inspector Gadget to the gold gears of the clockwork. This allowed the Clockmaker to set the gears in motion and stretch the Inspector's neck, arms and legs out.[17]

Fred was one of three M.A.D. Agents answering to Professor Easewell, who had set up a laboratory inside a large South African diamond mine. At one point he was disguised as a Miner in order to dig diamonds for the Professor even after all the real miners had been scared off by the Professor, pretending to be a ghost. Later, together with Dick and Bruce, he was called into the Professor's office, wearing a full M.A.D. uniform but no shoes, and was given an invisibility suit made of diamond dust to disguise himself as a ghost. The three agents had troube adapting to their invisibility and kept bumping into each other. But when they confronted Inspector Gadget, each of them managed to grab a large rock with the intention of throwing it at the Inspector. However, Gadget activated his Gadget 'Copter and managed to elude them. The agents threw their rocks and hit each other instead. Gadget then lost control of his copter because of the mine's ceiling, inadvertedly extended his Arms and Legs, hitting the Agents and knocking the diamond dust off their suits, thus turning them visible again. Shortly after this, the three agents and the professor were arrested by the local police and taken away.[18]

When M.A.D. set it sights on the fabulous Amsterdiamond, Fred posed as a Dutch chocolate maker and together with Jarvis and an unidentified Agent who appeared to be a Dutch native, answered to Agent Van der Sweet. Fred prepared a giant cheeseball with which to flatten Inspector Gadget like a pancake. The cheeseball was so smelly that Fred had to wear a clothespin on his nose, and Dr. Claw was even able to smell it when he contacted Fred by videophone. Jarvis used a giant hinge to catapult the cheesebal at the Gadgetmobile, but Brain extended it's wheels on stilts. These caused the cheeseball to bounce back to the windmill it had been launched from, hitting Fred and Jarvis instead of Gadget.

They quickly recovered and resumed transporting boxes of chocolate with pieces of diamonds inside. Later, Fred was present at M.A.D's windmill hideout where fellow agent Dick ordered Professor Gilderbrink to cut the Amsterdiamond into tiny pieces that could be hidden in a shipment of chocolate. Meanwhile, Penny was hiding under the table and managed to switch the Amsterdiamond with an exact duplicate. Then Inspector Gadget knocked down the door, Gilderbrink smashed the replicate with his hammer and Chief Quimby and the local police arrived on the scene. They arrested every M.A.D. Agent present, including Fred. Their hands were tied with ropes and they were led out of their hideout in a row, tied to each other with a lenght of rope in between each of them.[19]

Fred and Lenny, wearing M.A.D. unfiforms, were stationed in a Rocky Mountain hideout where they forced a kidnapped seismologist to perfect an earthquake machine. Both of them bumped into Inspector Gadget in the dark cave, and were knocked out. They were arrested by the police after they arrived shortly.[20]

Fred and Lenny broke into a London Art exhibit and succesfully stole the Pearls of Weng Ha as per Dr. Claw orders. Claw intended to present the pearls as a gift to Mr. Chow to seal their merger of evil. [21]

Together with fellow Agents Dick and Pops, Fred was preparing boobytraps in the farmhouse they knew Inspector Gadget would be using as a retreat. Jarvis was on look-out duty, hidden within a haystack. Fred was rigging the comortable chair with a spring mechanism designed to launch the Inspector into orbit. When Jarvis informed them that Gadget had arrived, the other agents jumped out of the nearest window. Fred got stuck, and Dick had to push him through forcefully, breaking the window. The four of them reported back to Dr. Claw, who angrilly explained that he wanted Gadget to end up behind bars for life, not eliminated, and ordered them to save the Inspector from all the traps they had laid for him.

That evening, Fred and Pops worked together to sprinkle fake snow down in front of one of the windows from the roof. This way, Gadget would stay inside the house because of the bad weather. When they ran out of fake snow, they began to use all kinds of balls, from pingpong to the basketball variety. When Gadget left in his van, Dick told Fred and Pops to drop everything and get in the back of his truck. They picked up Jarvis and went in pursuit of Gadget.

Gadget was soon arrested because his robot double had been busy robbing the Metro City Bank. Dr. Claw ordered Pops and Fred to break Gadget out of jail so he would receive the blame when his double kidnapped the Shah of Freeland. Meanwhile Dick and Jarvis were driving another vehicle, a red van, that contained the robot double to the airport. The two vehicles almost collided on the mountain pass, and Penny, who had stowed away in the red van, made the robot double change clothes with her uncle, confusing the M.A.D. agents. Pops told Jarvis to watch where was going, then grabbed the robot double by the arm, thinking it to be the real Gadget, and took it back to Claw's Castle. Claw immediately recognized the robot when it was brought before him by Pops and Fred, and called them both idiots.[22]

Fred drove a large truck with the M.A.D. emblem on it's cabin's front and sides. When the Gadgetmobile appeared behind him on a rocky mountain road, Dr. Claw ordered Fred to activate plan numer one: he pushed a button to release oil from the back. Claw himself then activated plan numer two: a M.A.D tank began to follow Gadget down the road. Fred then threw a lit bomb out of his window, which Gadget caught, but threw away just in time. The M.A.D. tank then extended a large cannon and fired it at the Gadgetmobile, but thanks to the intervention of Brain, dressed as a skater, the cannon's trajectory was altered and the cannonball shot straight trough the oil truck, leaving Fred with a damaged vehicle and scorched hair. When the Gadgetmobile swerved out of the way. The tank drove over the truck, flattening it, and Fred ended up sitting on the tank's cannon.

Later, Fred was stationed in a boating house that held several mechanical sharks and M.A.D. submarines. On Dr. Claw's orders, Fred released one of the mechanical sharks and set it loose upon Inspector Gadget. Together with Pops, he took a M.A.D. sub and headed for the underwater base. They were unaware that Penny went along as a stowaway. Inside the base, they dressed in M.A.D. uniforms and allowed Penny to overhear Dr. Claw's plans involving the launch of a spy satellite. They were arrested by the police after Gadget succesfully freed the oceanographers and Penny caused the satellite missile to malfunction.[23]

Stationed in Pianostan, Fred and Lenny prepared the boiling oil that would be deployed if King Wrong was happy.[24]

Fred became one of the students at Dr. Claw's M.A.D. Academy, and was referred by Claw as one of his 'kids'. Before classes properly started, Fred was wearing a standard M.A.D. uniform. When Claw ordered Agent No 3 to flip the control switch, he changed into a school uniform. Claw then asked the class to repeat their school motto "We hate Gadget" Some time later, Fred and Jarvis where back in their M.A.D. uniforms investigating a report that the secret entrance to the academy had opened, which they assumed had been a malfunction. They quickly surmissed that someone had entered the Academy and set out to look for them. They tracked a radio signal to the explosive shed where Penny had just been trying to contact Chief Quimby using her watch. They would have found the girl, if they had not been distracted by Brain, dressed as a gas station attendant. Fred and Jarvis briefly got stuck in the doorway while scrambling to get after Brain, but managed to get through to chase him. They located him in the audience section of an obstacle course. Brain managed to escape from Fred and Jarvis by jumping onto a moving tank being driven by Lenny, Pops and Dick. [25]

Fred, Dick and Squirt posed as Malaysian natives to protect and aid Claw's latest ally, the Wild Man of Borneo. When a missile attack on the Gadgetmobile was foiled by a passing ox cart, Fred told his fellow agents to flee, despite Claw telling them to get back to their posts and finish off Gadget. As the trio returned to the Wild Man's temple headquarters, Fred realized that Claw was going to be mad at them. Shortly, the Wild Man brought a captive Gadget to his hq, and Fred threw the Inspector in a dungeon filled with other captives that had already been injected with the jungle fever. Later, Fred and Squirt were handling the Wild Man's supply of jungle fever vials in his laboratory, unaware they were being observed by Gadget's niece, Penny. She used the laser from her computer watch to destroy a large beaker on a table. When the two agents rushed to investigate, Penny had the opportunity to steal a couple of vials. Then the Wild Man entered and ordered Fred and Squirt to bring a crate. Fred chuckled at the thought that Gadget was about to get jungle fever. When they arrived at the cel, they found the door had already opened, and Gadget pushed Squirt and the Wild Man out of the way. The Wild Man told Fred and Squirt to find Gadget and bring him back. Gadget had conveniently circled back to the original cel, so Fred simply pushed Gadget into it. Squirt proposed that they watched the Wild Man inject Gadget, to which Fred agreed. However, Gadget (with some help from Brain, now wearing the same disguise as the M.A.D. Agents) caused a commotion inside the cel and the Wild Man ended up injecting himself with the virus by accident. Fred and Squirt tried to trab Gadget, but he eluded them using his Gadget Legs, not once but twice. They were then joined by Dick and together began to move the afflicted prisoners to a M.A.D. helicopter, with Squirt telling the others to hurry. They were going to release the virus all over the world.[26]

Designated "Agent Q", Fred was disguised as a farmer driving a tractor. Inspector Gadget was lured into a covered bridge, which was equiped with a rotating device being operated by claw. Driving his tractor, Agent Q drove towards the Gadgetmobile from the other side, forcing Gadget to drive backwards. Both of them ended up in the water because the bridge was still spinning around, and the Gadgetmobile managed to get out safely, leaving Fred and his tractor under water. When he finally managed to get out, he drove right into a brick wall, disabling the truck and causing Fred himself to lose consciousness. [27]

Fred and Dick were assigned to assist Dr. Daedalus in his attempt to steal the formula to make lead into gold from a new museum on the Greek island of Thermos. Dr. Claw annonymously gifted a full size replica of the Trojan Horse to the museum, and arranged for the three angents to hide inside as it was transported to the musuem. The insides of the horse also came equiped with a small laboratory for Daedalus to do his experiments once he obtained the formula. Once the final exhibit was in place on the island, Fred and Dick exited the Trojan Horse to get the formula. They were unaware they were being snooped on by Inspector Gadget's niece, Penny. Professor Musty was giving a Inspector Gadget a tour of they mythological gardens, where Fred climbed a ladder in order to dislodge a large stone, aiming for the Inspector. Brain, disguised as a statue of a faun, used his panflute to shoot stone pebbles (which were supposed to be grapes from a statue of Bacchus) to distract Gadget. Fred did manage to dislodge the stone a few moments later, but Gadget inadvertedly deployed the spring from his hat, which caused the brick to bounce right back into Fred's hands. The weight made Fred tumble backwards, taking the ladder with him. He ended up inside a stone chariot, which in turn lost the statue of a horse that was attached to it, flinging it into the air. Dick, who had also sustained some bruises, brought Fred back to the Trojan Horse, using the chariot as a makeshift wheelchair.

Together they reported to an enraged Dr. Claw, with Fred claiming that Gadget tricked them. Claw then told them to use the robot of a Minotaur on Gadget while he visited the labyrinth. Fred took the controls and guided the Minotaur through the maze as if playing a video game. Dick encouraged him, but Gadget used his water pistol against the Minotaur, scrambling it's circuits and causing it to run in the other direction and crash through a wall, leading out of the labyrinth. "Dr. Claw ain't gonna like this", said Fred to Dick. But when Daedalus barged in, having retrieved the formula, Fred was ordered by Claw to man the Cyclops and use it against Gadget. Happy as a little boy, Fred bounced down the stairs to get to the Cyclops as fast as he could. Seated in the cockpit, using the Cyclops's one eye as a window, Fred maneuvred the giant robot to his target. Gadget was impressed by the Cyclops, but thought it should not be oparational until the next day. He used his Gadget 'Copter to fly up and find the off switch, but the Cyclops grabbed the Copter's blades and held them, causing Gadget to spin rappidly instead. Then, using it's other hand, the Cyclops flicked the Inspector away, landing in a pile of mud. Fred was enjoying himself so much he couldn't contain his laughter. The Cyclops grabbed the Inspector out of the mud once more. But Brain created a makeshift catapult and flung a barrel right into the Cyclop's eye, knocking over Fred and causing the robot to go haywire. It ran into the sea by itself, where it sank. Fred managed to escape and returned to the Trojan Horse, only to run into a snooping little girl, Penny, who had just stolen the formula from Daedalus and now dropped it. Scrambling to find the final ingredient, Fred forgot about Penny for a moment, and she escaped out of the Trojan Horse.

Daedalus lowered the bar of lead on a string into the completed formula and retrieved a bar of gold. He then ordered Dick & Fred to move the Trojan Horse into the sea and convert it to hovercraft. However, Penny took control of the hovercraft using her computer book and turned the craft back to Thermos. Crashing into land, the craft flipped over and converted back to horse mode. Inside, the three agents were dazed and confused, and Daedalus discoverd that the bar of gold had broken in two, reavealing there to be just a small layer of gold covering the lead. Dismayed, Daedalus discovered the formula to be a fraud. All three were eventually found by Chief QUimby and the local police and arrested.[28]

Fred was stationed at M.A.D.'s High View hotel, located at the top of Everest Island in the South Pacific. Wearing diving gear, he and several other Agents had been blasting away the support of the island underwater. By the time all of the support was gone, the island would sink to the bottom of the ocean, leaving only the top, including High View hotel, above water. All the other resorts would sink and be destroyed, leaving only M.A.D. in the luxury hotels business on Everest island. Fred used a special elevator to commute between the hotel and the mining operation below. Penny spotted him as he was walking to this elevator and noticed that the elevator hadn't moved, but found another door at the other side the moment that Fred returned. With his vision obstructed by his diving goggles, he failed to notice the girl, and she managed to leap through the secret door before it was fully closed again.

Some time later, Fred had returned to the mines below, and noticed the young girl snooping around. He grabbed her and told her he thought the boss would want to talk to her. He locked her in a supply closet and told her he would be right back. Penny used the laser from her watch to escape, and stole a diving suit and an almost empty tank of oxygen. When Dr. Claw informed all divers to evacuate the unsersea area and surface to the hotel, Fred, who was also in underwater, noticed Penny and grabbed her once more. This time he attached a lock and chain to her belt and left her to her doom. Back in the hotel, Fred joined Ricardo in loading the last batch of explosives into the elevator. They hurried out after pushing the button. But Penny had managed to escape drowning by removing her tank and belt and used her computer book to send the elevator filled with explosives back up. Instead of the island's foundation being destroyed, the High View hotel exploded and Fred was catapulted into the air. He landed safely in the sea, but was immediately arrested by the Chief Quimby and members of the local police.[29]

Fred and Dick set up a stall selling ice water in Metro City during a drought. Even though they charged 50 dollars a glass and 500 for a bottle, people were so in need in water that they rushed to the stall. Penny used the laser from her computer book to shoot a hole in the water truck, then yelled for the people of Metro City to come and get free water there. This left Dick and Fred receiving no more business. With the truck soon empty, the two agents decided to go back to Dr. Claw's secret underwater reservoir for a refil, even though they realized Claw would be mad at them. On their way, they realized that neither of them had paid attention to collect the money from their customers, and they had somehow misplaced it. Just when they arrived at the dam, Dr. Claw arrived, flying his [M.A.D. Jet, and fired two missiles to destroy the dam. The truck that Dick and Fred drove was knocked over by a massive amount of water released after the explosion and destruction. They climbed out together with another defeated Agent, Kirk Boulder and all three sadly sat down on a rock. Gadget told them they should be more careful where they swam, and Chief Quimby and his men arrived to arrest them.[30]

Squirt and Fred were assigned to help Dr. Stench in breaking into the Metro City gold reserve. Stench disabled the alarm from outside, and the trio entered the vault. They began to spray all the gold with a special substance invented by Stench, which made the gold turn green and give off an offending odor. Squirt and Fred were told to wear special masks to shield them from the stink, but Stench himself did not need any protection. Then they left, leaving all the worthless gold behind.

That night, Stench and his M.A.D. henchmen broke into Brix by using an oversized catapult to fire Squirt through the wall, then climbing in through an airduct. Stench warned his underlings to be carefull, for Gadget may be inside the vault, and indeed he was, flouting around after mistakingly inflating his Gadget Coat. Gadget struck up a conversation with Stench, leaving Squirt and Fred free to spray the gold with Stench's formula. Having climbed up onto a large stack of bullion, Squirt attempted to throw a gold bar at the Inspector, but was stopped by Brain, disguised as a janitor. He picked up the janitor and stuck him in a wall mounted vault, then closed the door and locked it. The three of them left the vault, leaving Gadget behind in perril, after finishing spraying all the gold.

The next day, the smelly gold was being transported to a base in the mountains by train, in order for scientists to remove the train. Claw informed Stench that the train was coming his way, just as planned. From a vantage point on top of a bridge, Stench, Squirt and Fred jumped onto the moving train, and began to knock out all the guards using a spray can filled with sleeping gas. When they were confronted with Gadget once again, Stench told Squirt and Fred to go detoxify the gold while he took care of Gadget. They began to change the gold back to normal by spraying it with the antidote. Soon the train arrived at the transfer point where several M.A.D. trucks were waiting to be filled with gold. Squirt told Fred it was time to load them, using a gimball to simply heave the contents from the train segments into the open trucks. Each of the agents then began to drive one of the trucks towards their M.A.D. destination. Thanks to interfence by Gadget, Fred's truck got it's bumper stuck to the one in front of it. Meanwhile, Penny used her computer book to gake control of the lead truck and redirect it back to Fort Brix, where Chief Quimby and his men were waiting to arrest the agents of M.A.D. [31]

Fred was one of the Agents posing as Druids in and around Stonehenge together with Dick and Lenny. They were led by the Scottish agent sometimes called "Pete", who spread rumours in the area that the ancient spirits of the Stonehenge Druids were angry and intended to protect the place from visiting solar scientist. One by one, the fake druids kidnapped each of the scientists, until only one remained: Dr. Flashpan. The three agents, their faces hidden by the hoods of their robes, cornered Flashpan after he left the local Wolfshead Inn and carried him away. They were unaware that Penny had witnessed the kidnapping and followed them.

The next morning, Flashpan and the other missing scientist finished building a giant heat ray at Stonehenge. "Pete" had tricked them into thinking they were working on a secret government project. The scientist had made sure the solar collectors were centered precisely. When "Pete" revealed they planned to use the devide to melt down the Tower of London, Dr. Flashpan was shocked and dismayed. The M.A.D. Agents jumped the three scientist and tied them up to the scaffolding on which the machine had been placed.

When Inspector Gadget arrived at Stonehenge in his Gadgetmobile, the four agents quickly put up their hoods again. Gadget noticed the three scientists all tied up, but assumed they were new freshmen from Stonehenge College. The agents grabbed Gadget and tied him up on a slab, then aimed the solar cannon at the Tower of London. Fred and Dick uncovered several large mirrors attached to the stones of Stonehenge. These mirrors would reflect the sun's rays onto the heat ray cannon, amplifying them. The mirrors were angled to reflect the sun at it's highest point, and London was being held for ransom. "Pete" told everyone to leave the area, as it was 30 seconds to zero hour. Fred cleared the area, leaving only "Pete" and Dick to handle the cannon. Brain, now disguised as a druid, snuck up to the scientists to untie them as well as Gadget. Penny took over the controls of the cannon with her computer book. The light was reflected back to the mirrors and the machine began to overheat and soon exloded. British bobbies arrived on the scene together with Chief Quimby. They arrested the M.A.D. agents, including Fred.[32]

Fred, as Agent No. 1, was tasked to take care of Gadget as part of the audience for the game show Quiz Master. Dressed as a cross between a caveman and Abraham Lincoln, he tried to hit Gadget on the head with a club, but received the Gadget Mallet on his own head instead. Dr. Claw then decided to drop a spotlight from the rafters on Gadget's head, but Gadget stood up at the last moment and the spotlight hit Fred's head, knocking him out.[33]

Fred and Bruce posed as ambulance attendants, driving a special van which could transform to resemble an ambulance. They drove up to the Gadget House, where the Inspector and his assistant were working out in the backyard. Bruce fed a projectile shaped like Claw's claw holding a pair of scissors into a special bazooka, which was then fired by Fred. The scissors cut a rope on which Capeman was hanging, and he fell to the ground. Gadget used his Top-Secret Gadget Phone to call for an ambulance, and the two agents promptly drove onto his lawn. They put Capeman on a stretcher and drove him, accompanied by Gadget, to Noodleman's Clinic. To enter the clinic via a secret entrance, they used sleeping gas on the passengers to ensure they remained unaware of the clinic's exact location. After depositing their 'patients' out of the back of the ambulance and down a hole in the ground, the two law enforcers were strapped into wheelchairs. Fred and Bruce pushed them into a room where they were allowed to come to. The two agents then returned, and Gadget asked them to give him and Capeman the full treatment, which Fred and Bruce ensured them they would. They wheeled their patents to another room, and strapped them to tables where Noodleman prepared to fire a Gadget Neutrolizer ray at the Inspector. However, Gadget managed to evade all of the rays being fired at him and aimed it at the controls by mistake, wrecking the instruments. Noodleman then told Bruce and Fred to transfer Gadget and Capeman to the physical therapy room before the entire place was wrecked.

The M.A.D. Nurse convinced Corporal Capeman that his arms and legs should be tied up so they could not get in the way during his flying test. Capeman was saved from falling out the window by Brain, and ended up in the room Gadget was being streched out in. Together, they completely destroyed all the machinery. After this, Noodleman told Fred to put Gadget in Unit B. Gadget was brought to a room to have a steambath and a whirlpool bath. Fred then joined Bruce, who had plastered Capeman into a full bodycast. They took him to the roof for some sun, using a wheelchair to transport the Capeman. After observing the motionless Capeman for a while, Bruce told Fred they had to go back and help Noodleman, and Fred told a nurse (Brain in disguise) to keep an eye on Capeman. As they walked through the corridors, Brain passed them pushing the wheelchair holding Capeman. For a moment Fred thought Capeman was actually flying. Capeman ended up in the same whirlpool as his mentor and as the papers got loose from his body, they clogged the whirlpool and it malfunctioned.

Fred tied Capeman up again and hung him on a hook hanging from the wall. He and Bruce then strapped Gadget to an operating table in another room, but Gadget demanded that Capeman would be allowed to witness the final test. Fred wheeled Capeman into the room, with his cape over his head and his hands tied behind his back. Noodleman bypassed Gadget's voice control, which made them go haywire. They put dark glasses over Gadget's eyes so that he didn't notice his gadgets malfunctioning. Once again Brain intervened, and caused the machine, which swung an ax and a spiked mace at Gadget, to go haywire. Fred and Bruce escaped from the room unharmed, but soon found themselves arrested by Chief Quimby and his men after they arrived on the scene. [34]

After Corporal Capeman left to go to Secret Agent School, Gadget reminisced about a time he and Capeman chased Fred and put him in handcuffs.[35]

Fred and Dick used a M.A.D. hot air balloon to fly over Metro Park Lake that Dr. Claw was threatening to evaporate completely. Fred used a M.A.D. style bullhorn and told the Mayor of Metro City to put ten million dollars in a basket hanging from the balloon. When Drs. Null and Void ordered H.A.R.O.L.D. to evaporate all the water in the lake, the Mayor panicked and asked the other people present to donate money to put in the basket, which Fred and Dick then retrieved.[36]

Fred and Lenny joined Thelma Bodkin when she travelled back in time to the Mesozoic era, where they managed to catch 3 Brontosaurus. They took them forward in time to the caveman era to destroy Gadget's ancestor, Cave Gadget as well as the Inspector himself. Each of the agents rode a bronto on it's head and dangled a carrot in front of it's eyes to make it move. Along the way, Thelma's time machine got destroyed and the Agents were trampled by a heard of wooly Mammoths. When Gadget, Penny and Brain were about to return to their own time, the three agents begged to be taken along, and were grabbed by arms extending from the Time machine. They ended up on the tusks of a stuffed mammoth in the Metro City Museum, where the Agents were swiftly arrested by Quimby and his men.[37]

Joined by Pops, Fred accompanied Thelma Bodkin on another trip back in time, this time to ancient Rome. Once there, they acquired a horse drawn cart to get around. After Gadget survived being thrown to the lions, Thelma ordered the two male agents to take Gadget and his ancestor Gadgetorum on a tour and to make sure they did not survive. Pops offered the two Gadgets a tour of Rome they would never forget. Arriving at a viaduct, he told them to climb to the top, where sandwiches would be waiting. Pops pushed Gadget off the viaduct while Fred picked up Gadgetorum and tossed him over. The two of them did a little victory dance afterwards while their victims landed in the water. Later, they were joined by Thelma, and spotted the two Gadgets on the street. Inspector Gadget wanted to continue the tour, and he and his ancestor were taken to the Circus Maximus, to compete in a chariot race against Pops and Fred. During the race, the Pops tried to his Gadget with a whip and Fred removed one of the wheels on the Gadgets charior with a trident. Inspector gadget returned the favor and used a saw to cut off one of their wheels. The M.A.D. Agents then jumped chariot and took over another one, driven by Brain. While turning a corner, they slammed into a wall and Fred was catapulted out of the chariot. He ended up in a viewing box, where he took the place of a spectator's seat.[38]

Fred and Dick succesfully robbed the Metro City Convention Center while Inspector Gadget was being honored by his peers and got away in a van with various items, clothes and food. But when Gadget caught up with them using his Gadget Legs, they gave up and returned the loot to the cops.[39]
