"Gadget Meets the Grappler" is the 9th episode of the second season of Inspector Gadget.
Synopsis[]
Professor Doomkauf unveils his new creature: The Grappler, a giant lug of a man with scars on his face. The Grappler will do anything his master says, including getting rid of Inspector Gadget in exchange for tidbits, which he considers to be practically any kind of sweets.
At Gadget's house, the inspector receives another assignment from Quimby: He has to stop a M.A.D. plot to destroy him during his trip on the Oriental Express. The Grappler arrives at Gadget's house, but has no idea that the inspector thinks that he's a cleaning man. AFter learning that tidbits are the Grappler's weakness, Penny tries to use choclate donuts to get his attention.
Posing as Chief Quimby, Professor Doomkauf calls Gadget on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone and tells him to hurry to the Oriental Express. Gadget takes the Grappler along and Brain follows them to keep Gadget safe. Claw has automated Oriental Express and has it leave earlier than planned. Brain enters the cab room of the engine and sees robot arms using a coal shovel and stoking the boiler with coal from the tender into the furnace. Grappler is still trying to finish Gadget off aboard the train, but is occasionally called down when confronted by sweets.
Penny and Capeman try to catch up with the train on a small diesel locomotive when they see the rest of the coaches roll toward them, Capeman accidentally switches tracks, saving Penny and himself from harm. They manage to g to the train, where Doomkauf almost captures Penny, but Capeman inadvertently stops him. Gadget finds himself thrown off the train and ends up in a pump trolley that Quimby is riding with fellow police officers. On the train, Penny, Brain, and Capeman try to stop the Grappler. Capeman is thrown out of the train window and lands in Gadget and Quimby's trolley. Penny uses her computer book to stop the train. and convinces the Grappler to be good in exchange for a lolly, thus foiling Claw's Gadget-eliminating attempt.
The episode concludes with Gadget and Penny talking about how, unlike the Grappler, pets like Brain have to eat foods specifically prepared for them, rather than human foods.
