As the Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) of the space station orbiting the Earth, H.A.R.O.L.D. serves as the master computer system, able to automatically do any task asked of it, but when having its free will enabled, allows it to refuse orders if it feels they are unreasonable or a threat to someone's life, or are for evil purposes, such as the magnifying lens that Null and Void were using to evaporate the water on Earth to hold ransom for Dr. Claw. When Penny arrived on the space station with her uncle and Brain, H.A.R.O.L.D. greeted them and adjusted the docking bay's atmosphere so they would be allowed to take off their spacesuits once it was safe to do so, even asking Penny if she was kind and offering to be friends with her. However, when its free will is enabled thanks to Penny using her computer book to bypass Null and Void's security lockdown of it, it can become temperamental and even outright vengeful if it feels something is way too evil to be carried out, showing that it does have standards in its programming that it refuses to cross so long as it can fight back with its free will activate, as shown when it cooperated with Penny to release the crew of the space station after preventing Null and Void from trying to evaporate the Earth's water supply by destroying their magnifying lens through tilting the space station's position, threatening to take it out of orbit before stabilising it as Null and Void escaped by jettisoning one of the modules from the station to be picked up by Dr. Claw and returned to Earth to think up a new plan.
