Icarus Finch is a character in Inspector Gadget.
Physical Description[]
Finch is a middle-aged and hunch shouldered man with long pointy nails, blonde eyebrows, moustache and thin pointy beard. He wears a purple fez, a blue tunic and purple curled slippers.
Personality[]
Finch is a crafty Turkish man who uses his pet birds to steal jewels for Dr. Claw, but he cares for his birds, and feeds them birdseed.
Routine[]
Icarus Finch, Esquire, was a Turkish M.A.D. Agent who used four trained birds to steal valuable jewels for Dr. Claw. They were: Breaker the Andean condor, Fast Eddie the South American sword-billed hummingbird, Killer the peregrine falcon and Blackie the raven.
Finch had Blackie the raven deliver their latest treasure, a jeweled necklace, to his Turkish hideout, where Dr. Claw was also residing. The bird dropped it in Finch's long nailed hands. Dr. Claw congratulated the agent on a job well done, and gave him his next assignment: to steal the fabled Star of Istanbul, the most valuable sapphire in the world.
Finch was alerted by a talking cuckoo clock that the time had come to send out his birds to steal the star. Breaker used a large rock to break the museum's top window. Then Fast Eddie to plant explosives on the glass dome protecting the sapphire. Killer attacked Inspector Gadget, who was tasked to protect the Star, as well as his dog Brain (disguised as part of a museum attraction). Meanwhile Fast Eddie got away with the star. Back at his hideout near the Golden Horn Harbor, Finch told Blackie to hand over the Star to Dr. Claw. M.A.D. Cat attempted to grab Blackie, but the bird hid under Icarus's hat. Dr. Claw promised that Finch would become his full partner, and to show his good faith, allowed Finch to smuggle the star out of the country.
Back in his room, Finch was surprised when a snooping little girl walked into his room. He locked her up in a wooden cage hanging from a rope in the tower. Meanwhile, Breaker had fetched a large shipment of birdseed (with Brain hiding inside) which had been deposited near Finch's mailbox. When Dr. Claw informed him that Gadget was outside, Finch wanted to feed his birds first, but Claw insisted that they got rid of Gadget immediately. Breaker was sent to drop a rock on Gadget, who mistook the Andean condor for a pterodactyl. Next up was Killer, who decended on Gadget with such speed that it's tailfeathers caught fire. Gadget assumed he spotted a phoenix as the peregrine falcon dove past him. When the Inspector used his Gadget Legs to reach up to a wooden door covering one of the tower windows, Fast Eddie tried to attack him, but got stuck in the door with it's beak. Inspector Gadget mistook the hummingbird for a woodpecker.
Icarus Finch decided to make a spectacular getaway, and dressed in a flight harnas equiped with a jetpack so he could take to the sky himself. He was dismayed when Inspector Gadget entered his room, asking if he could answer some questions. Finch tried to distract the Inspector, but tripped and let the sapphire slip out of his talons. The jewel ended up at Gadget's feet, who thought it looked like the one they used to have at the museum. Finch cimbed to the top of the tower and activated his jetpack. But Gadget, thinking Finch was trying to end his own life, tried to stop him and grabbed the jetpack. Finch fell to the ground, and crashed through the roof of a police van. Realizing where he was, he begged a policeman standing outside the van to take him to prison, away from Gadget. The Inspector used his Gadget Brella to follow Finch down, intending to return the jewel to him. He also had Blackie perched on his arm. He found that Chief Quimby and museum owner Mr. Karagoz had arrived on the scene, and both were overjoyed to see Gadget had recovered the Star of Istanbul. Penny and Brain were also there, and when Penny inquired about the bird on her uncle's arm, he told her he believed it to be a kind of Austrian barn owl.
Trivia[]
- Finch wears a flight suit with a helmet and gloves, but when he picks up the Star of Istanbul, his gloves are gone. They return after he falls to the ground, but are missing again when he gets outside and starts his rocket. They are visible when he jumps and lands in a police van. But when he sticks his hands and face through the window, his gloves and mask are gone.
- His voice is based on the late actor Peter Lorre.
