Inspector Gadget film series is a series of two live-action films, based on the cartoon of the same name. Inspector Gadget (1999) stars Matthew Broderick as the title character, with French Stewart taking over for Inspector Gadget 2 (2003). The films were released by Disney and contained a different set of actors for each film, with the exception of D. L. Hughley, who voiced Gadgetmobile in both movies.
Films[]
Inspector Gadget (1999)[]
When a well-meaning, but overly trusting, security guard named John Brown (Matthew Broderick) is wounded in an explosion created by the evil Dr. Claw (Rupert Everett), a beautiful scientist named Brenda Bradford (Joely Fisher) takes him under her wing and turns him into a crime-fighting dynamo by replacing his limbs with a wealth of gadgets and gimmicks. Now dubbed Inspector Gadget, the once-naive guard can fulfill his dream of becoming a crime-fighting detective, and as he investigates his first case ― namely, who blew him up ― he finds out that the man responsible also killed Brenda's father. Now it's up to the Inspector to find the fiend's identity and bring him to justice, using his homegrown bionic powers to crack the case.
Inspector Gadget 2 (2003)[]
Dr. Claw (Tony Martin) is back to his evil ways, causing havoc for Inspector Gadget (French Stewart) and the citizens of Riverton. Adding an additional twist is G2 (Elaine Hendrix), a new robot cop who provides a little crime-fighting competition to Gadget, who is starting to fall in love with her.

Differences from the cartoon[]
- The movies take place in Riverton when in the cartoons, the hometown of Inspector Gadget was Metro City.
- Inspector Gadget's real name is John Brown, when the cartoon implied that Gadget was his real last name and never revealed his first name.
- Brain is an ordinary beagle, when in the cartoon, he was a yellow dog that was able to walk on only his bottom legs and able to communicate through gestures and grunts. The film version of Brain also never uses disguises. He did speak at the end of the first film, though, voiced by Don Adams.
- The Gadgetmobile is able to speak and he has a personality (though those traits were later used in the Inspector Gadget's Last Case and Inspector Gadget's Biggest Caper Ever). Also, the Gadgetmobile is in Gadgetmobile mode at all times and never becomes a Gadget Van.
- Penny had brown hair, when in the cartoons, she was blonde. This was fixed in the second film.
- Dr. Claw has a single robotic claw, as opposed to wearing metallic gloves and his face is never completely hidden, when the original cartoon only ever showed Claw's arms and hands. This was noted in the Inspector Gadget's Last Case bonus features.
