Inspector Gadget Wiki

Jarvis is one of Dr. Claw's agents in Inspector Gadget.

Routine[]

Jarvis is a M.A.D. agent who appears in various disguises on several missions.

Personality[]

He is malicious and cruel like his fellow M.A.D. agents.

History[]

Together with Abdul, Dick, Squirt and Pops, Jarvis posed as a member of Amazon Annie's tribe while stationed in the Amazon jungle. As such, he wore only a grass skirt, a medalion of the M.A.D. symbol, sandals and had a small bone decorating his nose. After Inspector Gadget accepted Annie's invitation to attend the tribe's Amazon sacrificial ritual,Jarvis performed a ritual dance together with Pops and Squirt. Together, they changed a song which sounded suspiciously like the Inspector Gadget theme. All of them were scared off by a brown gorilla (actually Brain in disguise) but soon resumed their efforts. However, Dr. Claw himself ordered Amazon Annie to stop the liquidation as he had need of Gadget at his Aztec Temple hideout. Disappointed, the entire M.A.D. tribe was left behind in the jungle.[1]

Jarvis posed as a cook at the Bide-A-Wee Health Spa. He put a special potion on all of Inspector Gadget's food that was meant to drug him and make him do anything Dr. Claw told him to. However, Brain made sure that Gadget did not get to eat any of it. When Madame told him the potion was having no effect on Gadget, Jarvis concluded that Gadget must be really tough and proposed to offer him his dynamite cake. Jarvis, Madame and Dick tried to run away from the building before the cake exploded, but thanks to Brain and Penny's intervention, it fell out of a window, causing a large explosion outside. The three M.A.D. agents ended up in a smoking crater and were arrested by Chief Quimby and several police officers.[2]

Jarvis operated a cotton candy stand at an amusement part near Metro City that Dr. Claw was holding to ransom with a bomb threat. When Inspector Gadget passed the stand, Jarvis informed Dr. Claw by video phone that he was ready to take care of him, then proceeded to squirt the Inspector with sticky cotton candy. Jarvis jumped out of the stand and made a run for it, with the Inspector in pursuit. He jumped into a swan shaped boat on the tunnel of love ride and managed to get away from Gadget. Later, Jarvis was operating the roller coaster ride. Gadget was chasing another Agent, Lenny, who was dressed as a lady, but Jarvis stopped the Inspector and told him the man he was chasing had hopped aboard the roller coaster and suggested him to hop aboard. A balloon salesman offered Jarvis a stuffed panda. Knowing the bomb that was threatening the entire park was in it, Jarvis gulped and quickly returned it. The salesman then joined Gadget and took place next to him in the roller coaster as Jarvis told them "Happy trails". Lenny joined Jarvis at the ride and told him he felt it was going kinda slow, so Jarvis sped up the ride. He then told Lenny they had better leave before the bomb exploded, but Penny had tied their shoelaces together, causing both agents to trip and fall to the ground. When they got up, the balloon salesman ran past and threw the panda bear at them. The caught it, but threw it away again and once more tripped and fell over.[3]

Identified as Agent 3-11, train devision, Jarvis posed as a conductor aboard a train carrying valuable computer parts. His disguise included a large false nose which doubled as a communications device. The disguise caused Inspector Gadget to think the conductor had a very honest face, while in fact Jarvis had promised Dr. Claw to get rid of the Inspector. He pointed Gadget to an emergency exit while the train was in motion and pushed him into a casket with a false bottom. Both times Gadget briefly ended up outside the train, but in both cases he bounced back in. The Conductor then send Gadget to the caboose and uncoupled it from the rest of the train. Gadget used his Gadget Arms and Gadget Legs to catch up with the train, with assitance from Penny who pulled the emergency break. The Inspector suspected the train's engineer of being a M.A.D. agent, but the conductor told him otherwise. When Dr. Claw informed Jarvis it was time to take over the train, he released sleeping gas (knocking out both the entingeer and Penny) in the engine room and switched tracks, so the train heading towards M.A.D. Mountain. Once inside the mountain, Claw told Jarvis to have Gadget bring the computer parts to him personally. Jarvis asked the Inspector to bring the boxes to the 20th floor. When Penny re-hijacked the train using her computer book, Jarvis leapt at the moving vehicle, but bounced off the side.[4]

Jarvis posed as a Hotel Social Director on one of the Boha Boha Islands. He welcomed Inspector Gadget to the hotel, but warned him that there were tiny flies bussing around that put peole to sleep by biting them. In reality, the Hotel was equiped with various hidden devices that emited Dr. Claw's new powerful sleeping gas. Jarvis offered to show the inspector around, and pointed him to the island's famous 'Sleeping Beauty' flowers. Gadget managed to evade the gas that was sprayed from these fake flowers. When Gadget told Jarvis he would like to rent a small boat to go over to the other islands, Jarvis panicked and told the Inspector to try some natural spring water first. The water also sprayed the sleeping gas, but Gadget thought he saw a tiny fly on Jarvis nose. Intending to use his Gadget Swatter, he accidentally knocked out Jarvis with his Gadget Mallet instead, before finally succumbing to the sleeping gas himself. Later Jarvis reported to Dr. Claw and wanted to come over to the laboratory, but was ordered to take care of Gadget first. Jarvis invited to take Gadget waterskiing. Driving the speedboat, Jarvis tried to steer Gadget into a buoy, but Gadget evaded it. Dr. Claw himself fired a missile from his M.A.D. sub, but hit the boat instead of Gadget, causing it to explode. Jarvis was catapulted onto shore and ended up on the beach, smoldering. When Gadget's niece walked into a pit trap on the island, Jarvis took her inside Claw's hidden cave hideout. But Inspector Gadget took a shortcut inside the same cave and exited a hidden door, knocking Jarvis out in the process. He then released all of the sleeping gas by mistake, and Jarvis was soon captured in a net by the police, fast asleep.[5]

When M.A.D. set it sights on the fabulous Amsterdiamond, Jarvis posed as a Dutch chocolate maker and together with Fred answered to Agent Van der Sweet. Jarvis used a giant hinge to catapult a giant cheesebal prepared by Fred at the Gadgetmobile, but Brain extended the vehicle's wheels on stilts. These caused the cheeseball to bounce back to the windmill it had been launched from, hitting Fred and Jarvis instead of Gadget. They quickly recovered and resumed transporting boxes of chocolate with pieces of diamonds inside.[6]

Jarvis was on look-out duty, hidden within a haystack outside the farmhouse that Inspector Gadget would be using as a retreat. Inside, Agents Dick, Fred and Pops were preparing boobytraps in various household objects. Using a combination telescope and microphone attached to a computer, Jarvis informed the others that Gadget was approaching in his Gadget Van. Unfortunately for him, Gadget drove his van right into the haystack, catapulting Jarvis into the air and down the chimney of the farmhouse. Hanging upside down in the fireplace, he informed the others of Gadget's arrival. The others jumped out of a window, while Jarvis climbed back up the chimney and slid off the roof. The four of them reported back to Dr. Claw, who angrilly explained that he wanted Gadget to end up behind bars for life, not eliminated, and ordered them to save the Inspector from all the traps they had laid for him.

Jarvis entered the house, once more using the chimney. Gadget, who was preparing a new gadget for use, thought he heard something, bumped his head and began to fire his finger laser wildly. Jarvis took cover underneath a bearskin rug. But when he saw the Inspector was about to reach for the breadbox, he jumped up (still covered by the bearskin), grabbed the box and hid inside the oven. The oven exploded, catapulting him on to the chair, which triggered the ejector seat and sent Jarvis through the roof, landing some miles away on a hill, flattening a dog on a unicycle.

That evening, Jarvis slowyl made his way back to the farm, but was still feeling groggy. He bumped into a scarecrow (Brain in disguise) and decided to rest for a bit, while receiving instructions from his fellow agents on his wristwatch. He then fell asleep against the scarecrow. But when Gadget drove off in his Van, the scarecrow began spinning around at great speed, hitting Jarvis several times. This was repeated when the other M.A.D. agents left in a truck, almost leaving Jarvis behind, but they quickly backed up to fetch him.

Soon, Jarvis and Dick were tasked to take another vehicle, a red van, and transport Gadget's robot double to the airport to kidnap the Shah of Freeland. They did not realize Gadget's niece Penny had stowed away in the back of the truck. When the red van almost collided with M.A.D.'s green truck, in which Pops and Fred were holding the real Inspector Gadget, Penny took the opportunity to have the Robo Gadget switch clothes whith her uncle. Dick grabbed the real Gadget by the arm, thinking it to be the robo double, and headed for the airport. Jarvis was soon annoyed by the amount of talking the 'robot' did during the ride, to wich Dick replied that he hadn't built it. At the airport, Inspector Gadget thought he spotted a M.A.D. agent, and went into action, dragging Dick and Jarvis along. He then employed his new Gadget Bola-Balls, and soon he, both Agents and Brain were tied up by them. Then the Robo double dropped from the sky, knocking the group loose. Dick and Jarvis were quickly arrested by the police.[7]

Jarvis became one of the students at Dr. Claw's M.A.D. Academy, and was referred by Claw as one of his 'kids'. Before classes properly started, Jarvis was wearing a standard M.A.D. uniform. When Claw ordered Agent No 3 to flip the control switch, Jarvis changed into a school uniform. Claw then asked the class to repeat their school motto "We hate Gadget". Some time later, Jarvis and Fred where back in their M.A.D. uniforms investigating a report that the secret entrance to the academy had opened, which they assumed had been a malfunction. They quickly surmissed that someone had entered the Academy and set out to look for them. They tracked a radio signal to the explosive shed where Penny had just been trying to contact Chief Quimby using her watch. They would have found the girl, if they had not been distracted by Brain, dressed as a gas station attendant. Jarvis and Fred briefly got stuck in the doorway while scrambling to get after Brain, but managed to get through to chase him. They located him in the audience section of an obstacle course. Brain managed to escape from Jarvis and Fred by jumping onto a moving tank being driven by Lenny, Pops and Dick. [8]

When M.A.D. opened the New Foods Dairy company, Jarvis was disguised as a farmer and positioned some distance away from the farm in order to get rid of unwanted visitors. Informed by Dr. Claw that Inspector Gadget was coming, he promised to steer Gadget up the North road instead. Gadget stopped to ask for directions. Jarvis told Gadget the North road was the most 'scenic' of the four choices, and informed Claw that Gadget "fell for it" after Gadget took his advice.

When Gadget, with a little help from his dog Brain, arrived at M.A.D's New Foods Dairy company farm, Dr. Claw told all agents to be on the lookout for him. Jarvis joined Dick (also dressed as a farmhand) and Pops (disguised as a little old lady) in spying on Gadget. When Gadget stopped to take some notes on the dairy production inside a silo, Dick and Jarvis grabbed him from behind and pushed him over the rails, into a large vat of milk. But when they saw the bull charging at them (chasing Brain, also disguised as a farmer), both agents panicked and fell into the vat themselves, while Gadget was still hanging over it's side. The agents and Brain ended up being churned into large, round cheeses and spat out of the bottom of the machine onto a conveyor belt. A short while later, Chief Quimby and his men arrived, and Brain used a pitchfork to lead the two agents as well as the bull (who had joined them as another giant cheese) out of the barn.[9]

Jarvis and Dick served as Great Wambini's accomplices during his performance at the Metro City Auditorium. Wambini introduced himself and his assistant and explained that he was going to switch the contents of the two saves with each other. One vault held gold, the other stacks of money. After the Great Wambini uttered some magic words, smoke filled the air, obscuring the fact that Dick and Jarvis hoisted both saves up into the rafters. Up there, Dick cracked the safes, Jarvis emptied them and then they put fake backdrops into the empty safes before dropping them back onto the stage while Wambini produced more smoke. They attempted to drop the gold safe on Inspector Gadget, but he was pushed out of the way by Brain, who unfortunately got flattened himself (but soon recovered). After the show, Jarvis and Dick carried a magic booth in which Inspector Gadget had been locked into a truck baring the M.A.D. logo and transported it to the Great Wambini's mansion. Together with Lenny, they were tasked to guard the sacks of gold and money in the library, but all three agents fell asleep sitting next to an open fire.[10]

For the second of eight crimes to celebrate M.A.D.'s eight anniversary, Jarvis and Dick robbed the Metro City Art Center. When Corporal Capeman asked them if they had seen a suspicious looking litte old lady inside, Jarvis asked Capeman to help them load the paintins they were carrying into their van, which Capeman did. Jarvis then left behind a second calling card of this crime spree in the shape of a M.A.D. birthday candle. The two of them then robbed an armored truck as the third crime. When Capeman inquired what was going on, Jarvis told him they were moving the money to an unmarked van for safety, and once again the corporal gave them a hand.

Later, as part of the fifth and sixth crime, Jarvis and Dick robbed several cruiseships in the Metro City Harbour. They then headed to the Gadget house to execute crimes seven: destroy the Gadget House and eight: destroy Gadget. Mistaking them for backup agents in disguise, Gadget welcomed them and cut an entrance for them through the bars protecting the house. Walking behind Gadget and Capeman, Dick and Jarvis tried to hit them from behind, but were thwarted when Brain pushed a cart at them. Briefly dazed, the agents dropped the final two M.A.D. candles, which Gadget picked up and took into the house. Dick ensured Jarvis that Gadget had by now gathered enough candles filled with explosives to be able to blow him sky high, so they decided to leave. But just as Dick started to set the candles to explode while driving away in their van, Gadget flew after them and deposited all the candles through the van window. Moments later, the van exploded.[11]

Jarvis was one of the M.A.D. Agents stationed at Noodleman's Clinic. When Bruce and Fred brought Gadget and Capeman (both knocked out by sleeping glass) to the clinic, Jarvis and Lenny were there to watch, and chuckled wickedly. Jarvis then joined Dick and Dr. Noodleman in one of the control rooms. They prepared to fire a Gadget Neutrolizer Ray at the Inspector, but he evaded it's rays and aimed it at the controm by mistake, wrecking the instruments. Jarvis was instrumental in securely bolting down the Inspector to an operating table after Gadget proved that the normal straps could not adequately restrain him. Jarvis worked at the computer terminal during Noodleman's final test, but once again Gadget's gadgets proved to sturdy for the machinery. When Chief Quimby and his men arrived on the scene, Jarvis and several other Agents were arrested.[12]

Jarvis was one of several Agents who were posted at TV Station 3 from which Dr. Spectrum operated his Dream Machine. Jarvis and Dick were packing Dream Away Machines as they rolled off the assembly line. They were also instrumental in robbing a gold transport after it's driver and guards had fallen asleep on the job. When Inspector Gadget passed them in his Van, he pointed out that they had dropped a bag, and Jarvis thanked the Inspector for being so attentive. Back at the Station, Dr. Spectrum ordered Dick and Jarvis to take care of Gadget immediately, but they felt they deserved a lunch break first. They went to the cafeteria, but before they could have their desert, Bert Sweetley told them to drop everything and get rid of Gadget right away. Jarvis operated a Remote Control Robot and sent it to destroy Gadget while Dick gave instructions. But after Gadget used a cutting laser from a large machine to split the robot in half, Jarvis broke his remote control and threw it away in disgust.

Inside the studio where a commercial was being filmed, Dick instructed Jarvis to throw a microphone stand at Gadget. He knocked Gadget out, and Bert Sweetley took credit for it. Jarvis and Dick held Gadget's arms while he lay on the ground, then helped him up and hooked him up to a helmet version of the Dream Machine Gadget's body began to react, and his telescoping Gadget Arms knocked both agents against a wall. They managed to grab his arms again, but Gadget inflated his Gadget Coat. Dick and Jarvis held on as Gadget floated out of the building using an escape duct while the machine began to explode. Gadget woke up and swapped the inflated coat for his Gadget 'Copter. He landed near Chief Quimby and his men, with Dick and Jarvis still holding on to him. The two agents were swiftly arrested by the police.[13]

A clip of Jarvis and Pops attempting to assassinate Inspector Gadget by firing a laser at him from a submarine while the Inspector was relaxing on the beach was shown at a Police Convention in honor of Gadget.[14]
