Inspector Gadget Wiki

Louise Lane is a character in Inspector Gadget. She is a M.A.D. agent working for Claw.

Routine[]

Louise Lane worked as a news reporter for the UBS TV Network and reported from the village of Fuzz in the land of Fezzug in North Africa. She also secretly reported to Dr. Claw. King Fuzz of Fezzug explained to Lane that his people were so poor, they only had one water tap (a fountain) in the entire town. She inquired why the people of Fuzz didn't attempt to find and dig up the Lost Fortune of Fezzug, said to be a treasure of fortune and gold, that was supposed to be buried in the nearby hills. King Fuzz told her that only the "Chosen One" could lead them to the treasure. It was written that the "Chosen One" would be able to hold fire and water in his hands, walks so tall that he blocks out the sun and could fly like a bird. Only after this person spent three days and night in the cave, would treasure fall from the sky. If the "Chosen One" failed to fulfil any of these stipulations, the Guardians of the treasure cave, known as the Fierce Ones, would tear him to pieces.

Lane realized that the Fierce Ones would not lead her to the treasure, and asked Dr. Claw for advice using a communicator hidden inside her TV reporter microphone. Claw ensured her that Inspector Gadget possessed all the acquirements to be accepted as the "Chosen One" thanks to his many gadgets. As soon as the Inspector arrived in town, he accidentally caused a fire with his Gadget Laser, then put it out with his water pistol finger. After this, he used his telescoping Gadget Legs to reach up to King Fuzz's balcony, blocking out the sun. He asked Louise Lane if she knew what all the villagers were waiting for, and she asked him to fetch some free passes for a tour of the Atlas Mountains that had been blown onto a roof by the wind. Ever helpful, Gadget activated his Gadget 'Copter to fly up onto a nearby roof, thereby fulfilling the third part of the prophecy. All the villagers as well as the Fierce Ones were convinced Gadget was the "Chosen One". Unaware of this, Gadget was told by Lane that he had been chosen to go on the free Atlas tour. The Inspector suggested that Lane could interview him during the tour, then fell off a horse, knocking her to the ground.

Louise travelled to the mountain range in a jeep, while the Fierce Ones escorted Gadget by horse. They soon arrived at the entrance to the cave, which Gadget mistook for a restaurant. He promised to tell reporter Lane his life story over lunch, then reached over into her jeep to put the emergency brake on. This caused the jeep to speed off and drive circles around them. One member of the Fierce Ones found himself being chased by the runaway jeep, before it headed right for Gadget and Lane. The Inspector protected her by using his Gadget Legs to jump out of the way, and his Gadget Brella to float safely back to the ground.

The Fierce Ones were not amused. They grabbed Gadget and carried him to the cave entrance, which was blocked by a large boulder. Gadget was expected to use his laser finger on the boulder, but mistakingly thought it was all just a gimmick to amuse tourists. He uttered various well known magic phrases in order to open the door. The Fierce One quickly grew tired of this. They grabbed Gadget, tied him up, and one of them dragged him behind a horse. A pizza cutter emerged from the top of Gadget's hat, which he used as a improvised unicycle after flipping upside down. Shortly after this, Gadget was tied to a pole with the intention of being burned alive.

Lane reported back to Claw, using the radio in her damaged jeep. Claw told her to remove the boulder from the entrance herself. She used dynamite to blow the rock out of the entrance. It crushed the pole Gadget had been tied to. Lucky for the Inspector, he had just been untied thanks to the efforts of his niece Penny and their dog Brain (disguised as an iguana). The Fierce Ones were once again convinced he was the "Chosen One". Claw ordered Lane to stay with Gadget, knowing that the Fierce Ones did not dare to venture into the cave for fear of booby-traps. She told Gadget (who still thought the cave was a restaurant) that they should go in first to see if they could 'reserve a table'.

Inside, Lane was scared by the sight of a skeleton. She and Gadget tripped a trap involving spikes being shot at them when they entered a door to what Gadget assumed to be the dining room, but Brain (still posing as an iguana) managed to push them through in time, causing the spikes to only hit the door after it closed. Next, Gadget walked into a pit trap, but managed to hold on to the sides by extending his Gadget Arms. Acting as if she hadn't noticed his fall, Lane used the Inspector as a bridge to cross the pit. Both of them were startled when Brain ran into the pit behind them and yelped.

Gadget was getting tired of searching for the dining room, and told Louise that if the door they were facing wasn't it, he would go back to town to eat. Lane hoped they had stumbled upon the correct door this time. They entered a treasure room filled with gold and jewels, but once again triggered a booby-trap. This time, a large slab of rock fell from the top of the cave towards them. Brain lured them towards him by making noise, and the pair stepped forward, out of the way of the falling slab. Upon noticing it, Gadget mistook it as a stage for entertainers. Meanwhile, Lane was absolutely enthralled by the treasure all around her. She told the Inspector to get the others while she ordered dinner, knowing that the Fierce Ones would tear him to pieces if he left the cave before three nights and three days had passed. She contacted Claw to say she was waiting for the M.A.D. helicopter to fly in through the hole in the roof to get her, as well as the treasure. Claw told her to dynamite the front entrance to keep Gadget from returning inside. Brain saved his master's life once more by pushing him out of the cave just before the dynamite exploded.

Inside, Louise Lane gestured to the helicopter where she was. Two M.A.D. Agents, Pops and Dick, were lowered down into the cave in a metal basket. Together with Lane, they filled the basket with gadget and the three of them were pulled back up. They were unaware that Penny was watching them from a ledge. She jumped onto the basket in order to be lifted out of the cave as well, then used her computer book to take over the controls of the helicopter. The vehicle crashed against a mountain top, causing all the treasure to rain down all over the area, just as the prophecy had foretold. Lane, Pops and Dick jumped out using parachutes, and after landing tried to grab as much of the treasure as they could, only to be caught in the act by one of the Fierce Ones.
