History[]
The M.A.D. Archaeologist was stationed in Peru and offered Inspector Gadget a ride on his steamboat to the City of Gold. When Dr. Claw ordered him to eliminate Gadget, he pressed a button next to the steering wheel to activate a booby trap. On a moving rail, wooden cutouts meant to resemble Peruvian natives began to move along the shore, keeping up with the steamer and firing darts at Gadget. The Archaeologist tried to grab Gadget, but ended up with a knock-out dart on his nose and shoulder, and immediately fell asleep. Gadget saved the Archaeologist's life when he fell overboard and his boat went over a waterfall. The archaeologist briefly regained consciousness before fainting again.
He was still unconscious while Gadget brought him to the city of gold and laid him next to the temple. Dr. Claw choose that moment to contact him, addressing him as "Agent 1", and ordered him to start making the real blocks. Inside the temple, M.A.D. Agents Fred and Bruce were already busy replacing part of the gold blocks from the temple with fake, lightweight duplicates. The Archaeologist then marked the real gold blocks 'for the taking'.
When Gadget set up camp near the temple, the Archaeologist instructed the two other Agents to place a fake backdrop outside Gadget's window to trick him into thinking the sun had already set. The Archaeologist then went about his business hauling sugar with the help of a llama when Claw contacted him once more to tell him he was supposed to be disposing of Gadget. The Archaeologist retorted that he only had two hands, which infuriated Claw. The Archaeologist was under the impression that Gadget was still sleeping, but Claw informed him that both the Inspector and his niece were snooping around.
The Archaeologist caught Gadget's niece and planned to throw her off a cliff, but she pointed out that a group of tourists had arrived and would notice her fall. The Archaeologist decided to lock her up instead. He then returned to his work hauling sugar, when Inspector Gadget called him over to entertain the tourists. Misunderstanding, the Archaeologist thought Gadget was on to him and rushed into the factory to get a stun gun. But a female tourist named Henrietta ran after him, knocked him over and the sleeping dart landed on his nose, knocking him out once more.
Local police discovered that the bags of sugar in the factory were filled with gold, but soon found it to be fools gold. The actual city of gold was hidden beneath the temple, and was discovered by Penny. As the fake temple made way for the real one, the Archaeologist, although still groggy, managed to stumble away.
