The M.A.D Clown was one of the M.A.D. agents disguised as a circus perfomer, using the circus as a free-moving base to loot and steal. When Inspector Gadget was hired as a clown as well, the M.A.D. Clown filled up his clown car with rocket fuel. He intended to hit Gadget (who had a bullseye painted on the seat of his pants) so hard that the Inspector would end up in orbit. But Gadget evaded the car by using his Gadget Legs and the clown crashed into a pole instead. He was catapulted out of the car and ended up in a barrel. Enraged, the clown lunged at Gadget while swinging a golfclub above his head. This time, Brain (posing as a third clown) tripped him up and made sure the club got tangled up with some balloons. This made the club fly up into the air and out of the clown's reach. M.A.D. Clown then came at Gadget with a large hammer, but Gadget extended an arm from his hat with a waterbottle to spray in the clowns face, then grabbed a large fish to smack him away with. Brain caught the clown in a barrell and rolled him out of the piste.
The Ring Master's next plan was to have Gadget perform an lion tamers act. The M.A.D. Clown replaced the tame lion Brutus with a ferocious beast. After that, Gadget was tasked to replace one of the Flying Zuchini's in their daring trapeze act. The Clown manipulated the ropes from the top of the tent with no regards to the safety of Gadget or the Zuchini's. After the Ring Master removed the safety net on the ground, the Clown cut their ropes with a large pair of scissors. But Gadget used his Gadget 'Copter to get himself and his fellow trapeze artists (including Brain in disguise) down relatively safe.
For their fourth and final attempt to get rid of Gadget, the Ring Master introduced the Inspector as "Mr. Indestructable, the greatest stuntman in the world" as the Clown pulled a lever that hoisted Gadget into the air. Gadget was supposed to dive from the top of the tent into a barrel of water. The Clown used the same lever to make Gadget's podium spin to hasten his fall. He then began to kick away the barrel of water from it's original location while whistling innocently and tripped Brain who was trying to place a trampoline under Gadget. The trampoline still managed to break Gadget's fall, however.
The Clown then took Gadget by the hand to lead him to a seesaw, which he used to make Gadget perform a double backflip into a barrel. This barrel was actually part of a large cannon, which the clown extended using another lever, before taking a seat at the cannon's controls. Gadget's niece Penny used her watch to change the trajectory of the cannon at the last moment. The Ring Master ordered M.A.D. Clown to go after Gadget and not to let him get away as Gadget was shot ouf of the tent. But once outside, both of them were caught in a net that had inadvertently gotten tangled in Gadget's 'copter. They also found themselves surrounded by Chief Quimby's policemen and were taken into custody.
