Inspector Gadget Wiki
If you get out of this one, Gadget, I'll turn myself in.
~ M.A.D. Saboteur

M.A.D. Saboteur is a character in Inspector Gadget. He was hired by Claw to sabotage a space mission to fix a faulty satellite.

History[]

The M.A.D. Saboteur had infiltrated a launch site that was about to send up a spaceship to repair damage to a Communications satellite. Dr. Claw intended to take control of the satellite himself so that the world would only hear "the bad things that were good for M.A.D.". The Saboteur reported to Claw in person at Dr. Claw's Castle to tell him that only Inspector Gadget could keep him from flying the space shuttle, and that he knew how to take care of the Inspector. Claw added that the Saboteur should take care of Gadget for good.

When Gadget arrived at the launch site he mistakingly thought the launch was already in process even though it was only a dry run. The Saboteur took advantage of this by pushing his fellow astronaut (not a M.A.D. Agent) over the railing. Gadget saved the man's life by inflating his Gadget Coat, but the astronaut broke his ankle, and could no longer serve as the shuttle pilot.

The Saboteur reported to Claw that everything was going according to plan. He was now going to pilot the shuttle and he was ready to deal with Gadget. At that moment, Gadget came into the room and told the Saboteur he was searching for M.A.D. Agents. While Gadget took a closer look at the Saboteur's lunch box, the Saboteur quickly closed the door to his locker in which a uniform with the M.A.D. logo was hanging.

The Saboteur told Gadget that the best way to guard an astronaut was to become an astronaut himself. He suggested that the Inspector go through the exact training he himself had done, starting with the automatic centrifuge. The Saboteur thought he could quickly get rid of Gadget by cranking up the speed of the centrifuge. To his dismay, Gadget thought spinning around at great speed was great fun. He then inadvertently extended one of his Gadget Arms, snagged the Saboteur and forced him to join the spinning motion. Both of them were saved when Gadget's dog Brain snuck into the testing room and turned the centrifuge off.

The next test the Saboteur picked out for Gadget was the Anti-Gravity room. Gadget was given a space suit and helmet to wear, and the Saboteur told him that all the air was removed from the room to make it's conditions just like space. When Gadget entered, the Saboteur removed Gadget's oxygen tube. Convinced that Gadget was finished, the Saboteur left the console room, but once again Brain had been hiding in a hidden compartment of the wall and made sure to rescue his master. Gadget realized his suit had been tampered with, and decided to find his friend the astronaut, fearing he may be in danger.

The Saboteur was surprised to see Gadget had survived, while the Inspector was glad to see the astronaut was safe. Gadget was taken to the Rocket Car Test Track and offered to try it. The Saboteur boarded another Rocket Car, having made sure that Gadget's car was on it's way to collide with a brick wall. But Brain switched the tracks, leading the Saboteur to crash into the wall instead. Gadget came to the conclusion that his friend should have worn a helmet, like himself.

After a brief visit to the medic to get his bruises bandaged and his leg in a plaster cast, the Saboteur was still determined to go through with the launch. When he ran into Gadget in a hallway, he was afraid of being hurt again and ran in the other direction. Gadget surmised that the astronaut must have had a run-in with the saboteur he was looking for and followed him using his Gadget Skates. The Saboteur trapped Gadget in a room with a Meteor Canon. Gadget inflated his Coat again, and one particularly large meteor bounced off of him, crashed through the locked door and crushed the Saboteur under it, making him see stars. Gadget assumed this was the work of the saboteur he was looking for, and decided to take the astronaut's place in the shuttle so that the saboteur would show himself.

The Saboteur reported to Claw that Gadget had spoiled everything and was going aboard the ship. Claw decided to change his plans and use the opportunity to eliminate Gadget. The Saboteur planted a bomb near the shuttle's rockets, but was spotted by Gadget's niece, Penny. She informed Chief Quimby with her Computer book and set out to defuse the bomb while Brain, disguised as an astronaut, stalled the launch in the control room.

Watching from a safe distance with a pair of binoculars, the Saboteur told himself that if Gadget managed to get out of this one, he'd turn himself in. When the countdown stopped, the Saboteur realized something was wrong and reported to Claw, who was on his way to the rocket site in his M.A.D. Jet. Claw decided to take care of it himself and ordered M.A.D. Cat to prepare the rockets. Claw destroyed the launch pad surrounding the rocket, but Gadget remained unharmed, as did the rocket itself. When the authorities arrived, the Saboteur tried to make a run for it, but Gadget fell on top of him when he exited the rocket without a ladder. Penny and Brain ran up to her Uncle, who had flattened the Saboteur, and asked her uncle if he was alright. This annoyed the Saboteur, who had been hurt all over. Gadget then admitted to Chief Quimby that the only clue he had found up till now was a lunchbox. This was the last straw for the Saboteur, who jumped up, screaming loudly, confessed to being the saboteur and asked to be arrested and taken away from Gadget.
