"N.S.F. Gadget" is the 15th episode of the second season of Inspector Gadget.

Synopsis[]

M.A.D. gains control of Metro City's banks by tapping into an orbiting satellite. With the added distraction of "Crazy Gas", a substance that induces hallucinations in their victims, can even Inspector Gadget ever hope to regain control of the city's bank accounts? Dr. Claw slams his fist on his desk causing M.A.D. Cat's Gadget toy to break causing him to cry.

Plot[]

In Dr. Claw's Castle, Drs. Null and Void are revealing their newest plan to attach their black boxes to the orbiting satellites, thereby giving M.A.D. access to the bank accounts for everyone in Metro City who have an account with the Metro City Bank. To further ensure that the repairmen sent up to undo the damage can't interfere, Null and Void have developed Crazy Gas, a hallucination inducing gas that will cause anyone to inhale it to suffer crazy hallucinations that are out of this world. After M.A.D. Cat is subjected to it and has a vision of his Gadget toy bank growing gigantic and dropping the helpless feline into his Gadget Hat like dropping him into a volcano, Dr. Claw sends Null and Void to carry out their plan, with the first target on Claw's list of bank accounts at Metro City Bank being Gadget's itself.

Meanwhile, Gadget has finished his banking and takes Penny to make a withdrawal to buy her some new clothes. However, when the teller checks Gadget's account, there's no money in it. When Gadget decides to investigate himself, the teller accuses him of being a thief, forcing Gadget to mistake the arriving security guard as the thief and arrest him, allowing the guard to haul Gadget off to jail. Penny assures her uncle she'll notify Chief Quimby of this.

As Gadget sits in his cell with another fine-looking gentlemen who appears to have suffered the same fate, it is not long before Gadget is contacted by Quimby, finds him in a trash can, and gets his orders, straight from not just the MCPD, but Interpol as well, to find out who hacked the satellite and drained the Metro City Bank of the money in everyone's accounts. Quimby also assures Gadget he'll take care of getting him released. As Gadget then leaves to head for the main entrance for the jail, his inmate, Reginald, is revealed to be a M.A.D. Agent working for Dr. Claw, and notifies Claw of Gadget's release, and how he'll keep an eye on him. To that end, he reappears as a taxi driver to take Gadget home to get his equipment for going into space, but subjects Gadget to the Crazy Gas on the way. Unfortunately, when Gadget begins to suffer the effects of the gas, he inadvertently causes Reginald to be affected as well. Nevertheless, both come out of it unscathed, but Claw is frustrated with Reginald's failure.

At home, as Gadget tries to suit up, despite still suffering from some of the effects of the Crazy Gas, he almost suffocates due to his Gadget Space Helmet being empty on oxygen, so he heads to the nearby spaceport to get prepared. However, Reginald is there, disguised as a mechanic, and has not only patched up a crippled one-man spaceship for Gadget to fly, but when asked to fill up the O2 tank for the Gadget Space Helmet, he also adds another dose of Crazy Gas to it as well.

In the meantime, Penny has Brain keep an eye on her uncle, while she slips into the Metro City Bank after closing to investigate their computer systems. She soon discovers M.A.D.'s involvement and works to reverse it and get the money back.

As for Gadget and Brain, they soon launch into space, and as Reginald attempts to ease Dr. Claw with mentioning the Crazy Gas he slipped into Gadget's oxygen supply, it does little to put the enraged villain at ease. He contacts Null and Void in their ship and warns them of Gadget's approach as they were preparing the next phase of their plan to attach a black box to another satellite that would grant Dr. Claw access to the international banks next, before moving on to the stock market after that. To try and stop Gadget, they redirect the microwave signals of the hijacked satellite towards Gadget's ship to superheat it up and burn Gadget and Brain to a crisp, but Penny overrides their signal and redirects it towards them, forcing them to shut it off before their own ship gets barbecued. Growing impatient, Dr. Claw orders control given to him, and as he enjoys watching his bankroll grow more and more, he soon discovers Penny's reversal in taking the money back, and orders Null and Void to fix it.

As for Gadget, the moment he prepares to leave his ship and puts on the Gadget Space Helmet, he's dosed with another blast of Crazy Gas, and as a result, mistakes Null and Void's ship for a beautiful six-armed, Shiva-like woman, while also mistaking Brain for a demon trying to threaten her. In the scuffle that follows, when Gadget turns his attention back to Null and Void's ship, he now mistakes Brain for a rival suitor for the woman and tries to get rid of him, leaving the woman all his to claim, but when he tries to offer the woman flowers, he instead has his limbs ram Null and Void's ship, causing them to drop their black box, which Gadget recovers, but ends up painfully electrocuted by it, before an Interpol police spaceship arrives to recover Gadget. Seeing the cops are here, Null and Void abandon the plan and retreat as quickly as they can, while Gadget is brought safely aboard the Interpol space vehicle, and reunites with Penny and Chief Quimby, who commend Gadget on another job well done and relief that he's alright.

Back in his castle, furious at his plans being ruined as he watches Null and Void flee like cowards without going after the other satellites anyway, Claw smashes M.A.D. Cat's Gadget toy bank and confiscates the money that was stored in it. As M.A.D. Cat sobs over the loss of his toy bank, Claw juggles the change in his hand as he vows revenge once more as lightning and thunder crash and crackle around his castle.

Although Quimby, Gadget, and Penny share a good laugh afterwards, Penny then realizes to her horror that they forgot about Brain, still tangled in his teether to Gadget's space cruiser and still stranded outside the police spaceship.

Back home at the Gadget mansion, Gadget is about to brew up some tea when Penny smells gas. Gadget notices the burner didn't light, but before he can check it, Penny warns him that if you smell gas, there's probably a gas leak. Turn off all potential ignition sources, open windows to ventilate, and make sure it is safe before turning on any ignition sources. Gadget commends her, worried an explosion would have gone off otherwise, and Penny then adds on to notify your gas company if there is a gas leak. When Gadget asks if he can make his tea now, Penny offers him two cups as she would like a cup herself, leaving both laughing.
