Professor Easewell is a character in Inspector Gadget. He used diamond dust to create invisible suits for Dr. Claw.

Personality[]

It can be assumed Professor Easewell is native to South Africa, as he speaks with a light South African accent and is based there. The Professor has a tendency to chuckle wickedly, especially after telling someone one of his awful jokes.

History[]

Professor Easewell operated from a secret laboratory set up by M.A.D. inside the world's largest diamond mine in South Africa. There, he ground diamonds into dust and created invisible suits out of them. He used the first suit to personally scare away all the miners. Dr. Claw intended to use the suits to make all of his agents invisible and therefore invincible. From inside his lab, the Professor was in charge of three M.A.D. Agents: Dick, Fred and Bruce, who were tasked to work in the mines and collect the rest of the diamonds for him.

When Dr. Claw contacted Easewell to ask when the invisibility suit would be ready, Easewell, who was wearing an invisible coat at the time, ensured him they would be ready that same day, as the refraction process needed just one more batch of diamonds. A short while later, Claw informed the professor that Inspector Gadget was on the way, and Easewell promised to make Gadget disappear permanently. Keeping tabs on the Gadget Van by monitor, the Professor was stationed inside a train crossing guard tower. He first launched several missiles hidden inside coconuts up in the trees at the moving vehicle. When that didn't work, he activated a diamond tipped barrier at a train crossing, intending to slice the Gadget Van in half. But Brain, disguised as a crossing guard, managed to steer the van clear from danger. The diamond tipped barrier recoiled, and sliced the tower it was attached to in half, causing the Professor to tumble down from his seat among the rubble of what was once the tower.

Soon, the Professor was back inside the mine, wearing his invisible coat, which left just his face and hands visible. He scared off the remaining miners, but when he faced Gadget, the Inspector refused to believe in ghosts and entered the mine instead. The Professor was back in his lab when Dick informed him by intercom that an intruder had entered the mine. Dr. Claw also contacted the Professor, telling him he wanted Gadget eliminated before Claw's arrival. Easewell pushed a mining cart at Gadget, intending to run him over. He jokingly referred to the cart as 'the welcome wagon'. When Gadget stepped into an elevator, Easewell pulled a lever to send the Inspector crashing down into the elevator shaft, but Gadget survived both attempts on his life and started to chase an ostrich that had wandered into the mine instead.

Meanwhile, Gadget's niece Penny was also investigating the mine, and after following Fred into a dead end, found herself sliding down a secret passage and found Easewell's secret laboratory. She overheard the Professor as he noticed Gadget was still alive on one of his video monitors. Penny found the shute and conveyor belt on which the diamonds were processed, and also discovered the invisible suits. When Professor Easwell returned to his lab after informing Dr. Claw that all the suits were ready, he noticed Penny's shoes hiding in the closet of invisible suits, and quickly captured her. He tied her up on the conveyor belt and set her on a course to the diamond cutting laser, while he himself took a package of suits to give to Claw. Penny used one of the leftover diamonds to cut her rope and escaped the laser.

Professor Easewell called together the three M.A.D. Agents under his command, all wearing a full M.A.D. uniform but no shoes, and presented them with invisibility suits. He also put one of his suits on himself, and they all set off to confront Gadget. The three agents had trouble adapting to their invisibility and kept bumping into each other. But when they confronted Inspector Gadget, each of them managed to grab a large rock with the intention of throwing it at the Inspector. However, Gadget activated his Gadget 'Copter and managed to elude them. The agents threw their rocks and hit each other instead. Gadget then lost control of his copter because of the mine's ceiling. Inadvertently extended his Arms and Legs, he hit the Agents and knocked the diamond dust off their suits in the process. Now that the others were visible again, only the Professor was still invisible apart from his shoes. He tried to escape, but Gadget was catapulted through the air after attempting to arrest the ostrich again, and ended up flattening the Professor. Shortly after this, the three agents and the professor were arrested by the local police and taken away.
