"Quimby Exchange" is the 55th episode of Inspector Gadget. It is the 47th episode in production order.

Synopsis

The episode opens up in police headquarters. |Gadget, Penny, and Brain are enjoying a quiet day when Nervous Nick DeFecto, one of the most wanted M.A.D. agents, comes and turns himself in.

Later, at home, Gadget receives an assignment from Chief Quimby to protect DeFecto from Claw. as Gadget heads back to police headquarters. Gadget and DeFecto escape, but Chief Quimby is taken hostage by Claw, who takes him to his hideout in the ice factory.

Thinking that Quimby may be there, Gadget and DeFecto head off for the ice factory. Along the way, M.A.D. agents try to do away with them but fail. as the duo arrives at the ice factory, where Claw is holding Quimby hostage. Penny and Brain use their resources to save Gadget, DeFecto, and Quimby. Penny then turns the controls on to freeze and freezes Claw, who escapes to fight Gadget another day.

At the end, Gadget and Penny talk about how one shouldn't take chances with any dangerous crossings like drawbridges, railroads or streets as they observe the drawbridge Gadget and DeFecto attempted to cross earlier on.

• This episode marks perhaps the only time Dr. Claw gets directly involved in that he personally kidnaps Chief Quimby to use as hostage.
• This is the only episode of the 1983 series where Chief Quimby gets kidnapped/captured.
