"The Curse of the Pharaoh" is the 19th episode of Inspector Gadget. It is the 1st episode in production order.
Synopsis[]
Gadget, Penny, and Brain are in Egypt to see the treasures of a recently-discovered Pharaoh by the name of Poot-Ta-Toot. Eventually, after an encounter and getaway from a M.A.D. agent, Gadget is assigned to guard the Pharaoh's treasure and sarcophagus, though he does not believe in the Pharaoh's 4000-year-old curse. However, whilst on guard, Gadget gets into a tangle whilst doing macramé, then hears what he thinks is his stomach grumbling, and spends the remainder of the night looking for a snack machine. Meanwhile, three M.A.D. agents, disguised as a mummy and Anubis-esque Egyptian gods, take off with the sarcophagus, but Penny manages to stop them with the help of Brain.
The episode ends with Gadget and Penny discussing sun safety due to the hot Egyptian desert location they are in.

- The scene where Inspector Gadget encounters a boulder may be a reference to the Indiana Jones movie, Raiders of the Lost Ark.
- Bohbot Entertainment's print of this episode (as seen on Shout! Factory's DVD set from 2006) is simply titled "The Pharaoh".
- The episode was adapted into a read-along book-and-audio set of the same name by Peter Pan Records in 1984, utilizing the actual episode's soundtrack with narration added (save one new line of dialogue from Inspector Gadget, clearly voiced by someone who isn't Don Adams.)
- Animation of Gadget receiving Chief Quimby's transmission, the Gadgetmobile's parachute being deployed, Dr. Claw monitoring Gadget and subsequently petting M.A.D. Cat, and Penny reacting to the secret passageway opening and locking in her present coordinates on her computer book was reused for the closing credits sequence.
- Similarly, this is the first episode to feature the close-up shot of Gadget reading his mission from Chief Quimby that would go on to be re-used in numerous other episodes in the first season. Said shot can also be seen in the closing credits sequence.
