The Top-Secret Gadget Phone is one of Inspector Gadget's gadgets that's part of the Inspector's Finger Gadgets, two fingers are used to form a telephone in his hand. The earpiece is in his thumb. A tiny antenna is extended manually from the thumb before use. The mouthpiece is in Gadget's pinky finger. This is one of the few gadgets that is not voice activated; Instead, Chief Quimby activates it by calling Gadget. Despite using it on various occasions, the inspector will sometimes confuse the ringtone for something else. In most instances, this is Quimby's go-to method for contacting Gadget.

Season 1 (1983 series)[]

  • Gadget in Winterland:
    • while on vacation in Winterland, Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone. He was told to meet Chief Quimby hiding in a pot in the fireplace.
  • Monster Lake:
    • Gadget extends Top-Secret Gadget Phone, but Chief Quimby is actually speaking to him from outside the Gadgetmobile's window.
  • Down on the Farm:
    • Quimby calls Gadget while visiting a department store to direct him to the another department where they can meet.
  • The Amazon:
    • Quimby calls Gadget while he is fine-tuning the Gadgetmobile and tells him to meet him at the airport.
  • Race to the Finish:
    • After surviving a fall from a cliff, Gadget is stuck in the ground and answers the Top-Secret Gadget Phone. It turns out he landed on top of Chief Quimby, who appears from the hole underneath Gadget, speaking on a regular phone.
  • The Ruby:
    • Quimby calls Gadget on the Top-Secret phone in his Gadgetmobile to direct him to his location inside a nearby building.
  • A Star is Lost:
    • As Gadget is playing the cello at home, Quimby uses the Top-Secret phone to tell him to stop and to meet him at his hiding place inside a grand piano.
  • All That Glitters:
    • Quimby contacts Gadget while disguised as a guitarist in a Mariachi band during an open air concert in Metro City and manages to speak to him without moving his lips.
  • Movie Set:
    • Quimby arranges for a meeting at Look-Out Peak so he can call Gadget from a distance and send him the explosing message folded like a paper airplane. Gadget adjust the wings of the airplane and sends it back, while giving suggestions about folding on the Gadget Phone.
  • Art Heist:
    • After arriving in New York City, Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret Gadget phone from Chief Quimby, telling him to meet each other on the top of the Empire State Building.
  • Volcano Island:
    • While surfing off of Volcano Island, Gadget received a call on the TSG from the Chief, telling him to meet him at the hotel pool.
  • The Invasion:
    • After the Gadgetmobile has been flipped over, Gadget is called on his Top-Secret phone and told to meet the Chief in the Metro City park.
  • The Curse of the Pharaoh:
    • Quimby calls Gadget on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone to tell him to meet him at a table in an Egyptian resort after Gadget crashes his Gadgetmobile into the resort's swimming pool.
  • M.A.D. Trap:
    • After not receiving an assingment for three weeks, Inspector felt he was getting rusty. Penny suggested the Top-Secret Gadget Phone might not be working, and Gadget decided to check in with Headquarters. Finding Chief Quimby feeding pigeons on a park bench, he learned that things had been very slow lately and that the Gadget Phone still worked perfectly. He tried it out, and put the phone to Quimby's ear to receive a call reporting a burglary in the Metro City cheesestore.
  • Basic Training:
    • Gagdget received a call from Chief Quimby aboard a train to learn that Quimby was hiding inside a tea grolly that had already rolled up next to Gadget.
  • Sleeping Gas:
    • The Gadget Phone starts to ring while Gadget is playing ping-pong with Penny. The shaking of his hands causes him to slap his own head with his paddle. Gadget takes the call and learns that Chief Quimby is hiding behind the dartboard in Gadget's recreation room.
  • Greenfinger:
    • Gadget received a call while tending his garden. Chief Quimby told him to meet him at a nearby fire hydrant in which the Chief was hiding.
  • Gadget Goes West:
    • While shopping, Gadget receives a call on the Top-Secret Gadget phone informing him that Chief Quimby is hidden in his bag of groceries.
  • Photo Safari:
    • Gadget receives a call from Quimby after arriving at the airport, to inform him that the Chief was hiding in a soda machine nearby.
  • Arabian Nights:
    • Gadget answered his Top-Secret Gadget Phone on the golf course, but did not need it as Chief Quimby, hiding beneath a patch of sand with his head sticking out, was already within earshot.
  • Dutch Treat:
    • Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone while planting tulips in his garden. Chief Quimby was hidden beneath one of the tulips, and had one of Brain's dogbones in his mouth instead of his pipe. When Gadget's assignment self-destructed, the entire row of tulips flew into the air from the explosion, but Penny managed to catch them all in a vase she was holding.
  • The Great Divide:
    • Gadget answered his Top-Secret Gadget Phone while driving his van to pick up Penny from school. Quimby told him he was inside a phonebooth outside the school and instructed Gadget to take a shortcut, for which the Inspector converted his Van into the faster Gadgetmobile.
  • Eye of the Dragon:
    • Quimby called Gadget on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone while he was investigating a pearl theft in a London museum. Gadget told him he had followed the footprints of the suspected thief to a statue of a Chinese dragon, and was certain that the culprit was now trapped inside. However, it was Chief Quimby who was inside the statue, and he handed statue his assigment through the dragon's mouth.
  • Doubled Agent:
    • While eating popcorn at the circus. Gadget was surprised by a ringing sound and had to be reminded by Penny that it was in fact the Top-Secret Gadget phone. He then used his Gadget Legs to jump to the Chief's location.
  • Plantform of the Opera:
    • While disguisted as a statue of Atlas, using both his hands to hold up a heavy globe and with Gadget's assignment rolled up in his pipe, Chief Quimby still somehow managed to activate the Top-Secret Gadget phone to point Gadget to his location.
  • Don't Hold Your Breath
    • Gadget received a call while visiting an Aquarium and then mistook a fish that appeared to have a moustache for Chief Quimby in disguise. The real Quimby was wearing a diving outfit, however.
  • Gone Went the Wind:
    • Quimby called Gadget on the Top-Secret Gadget Phone while he was shopping with Penny and Brain and informed him that he's inside a poultry freezer.
  • King Wrong:
    • While shopping for a birthday present in a men's clothing store, Gadget was called on the Top-Secret Phone and informed that the Chief was hiding behind a mirror.
  • Pirate Island
    • Quimby called Gadget on the Top-Secret Gadget phone while he was vacationing in the Caribbean. He was directed to one side of his newly purchased boat to find the Chief emerging from the beak of a large mechanical pelican.
  • M.A.D. Academy:
    • Gadget is called at home and told that Chief Quimby is hiding in a desk in the same room.
  • Luck of the Irish:
    • Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret phone after plummeting down a waterfall in Ireland. Chief Quimby was positioned behind him, hidden in a log floating on the river.
  • Prince of the Gypsies:
    • Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret phone after destroying a funfair shooting stall single handedly, telling him to go to the fortune teller's tent.
  • Old Man of the Mountain:
    • While visiting a zoo, Gadget found himself being thrown by Congo the gorilla and landed on a turtle's shell. When the Top-Secret Gadget phone began to ring, he mistook it for his ears ringing from the fall. But Penny informed her uncle it was his phone, and Chief Quimby turned out to be hiding inside the turtle's shell Gadget was sitting on.
  • The Emerald Duck:
    • Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret Gadget phone while helping Penny with her duck project for school. Having learned the location to meet Quimby, he activated his Gadget Fan and used it as an outboard motor to travel to the meeting place.
  • Do Unto Udders:
    • After receiving a call in his kitchen, Gadget tells Penny he has to "take out the trash" and moves to his shed where Quimby is hiding in one of several trashcans.
  • Did You Myth Me?:
    • Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret Gadget phone while helping Penny on a history project about Greece in the Metro City library.
    • After apprehending Brain, disguised as a statue of a Faun, Gadget called Chief Quimby on his Top-Secret Gadget Phone to tell him he just apprehended one of M.A.D.'s top agents and ask for Quimby and his men to get there.
  • A Bad Altitude:
    • Gadget is called on the TSGP while planning a vacation at a travel agents shop. He is directed to go outside, where Chief Quimby swings from a palm tree, disguised as a gorilla.
  • Funny Money:
    • Gadget received a call at the automat. Chief Quimby was hiding inside one of the vending machines.
  • Follow That Jet:
    • Gadget answered the Top-Secret phone in his backyard and was told to meet Quimby up on the roof of his house.
  • Dry Spell:
    • During a drought, Gadget received a call outside the ice cream shop and was instructed to meet Quimby in the park.
  • Smeldorado
    • Unaffected by the Dr. Stench's terrible smell because of a cold, Gadget received a call on his Top-Secret phone inside a flower shop. He was instructed to meet the Chief in an alley nearby.
  • Quimby Exchange:
    • When Gadget was called at home, he thought it was the housephone ringing back, but was reminded by Penny it was actually the Top-Secret one. He was directed to find the Chief hiding in Gadget's closet, which was filled with similar looking trenchcoats and hats.
    • Later, Quimby called Gadget again to inform him that he had been kidnapped by M.A.D. and was being held at the old ice factory south of Metro City near the draw-bridge. But Dr. Claw scrambled the line, causing Gadget to misinterpret the Chief's words, thinking Quimby wanted Gadget to hide Nervous Nick DeFecto in a sold factory that's run down and play bridge with him.
  • Weather in Tibet:
    • While busy preparing dinner for himself and Penny, Gadget received a Top-Secret call and was directed to find Chief Quimby hiding in the oven in his kitchen.
  • Unhenged:
    • After falling off his roof into an inflatable pool. Gadget's Top-Secret phone began to ring. He was instructed to meet the Chief in his bathroom.
  • Snakin' All Over:
    • Wearing earmuffs, Gadget failed to hear the Top-Secret phone ringing until he removed the muffs. He was instructed to meet the Chief in his garage.
  • In Seine:
    • Gadget was just about some French crêpes prepared by Penny when his Top-Secret phone went off and he was told to go to the attic. He excused himself, saying he had to go meet Chief Quimby.
  • Tree Guesses:
    • Gadget received a Top-Secret call in a Canadian cottage he had rented. After answering, he sat down in a rocking chair, but the floor beneath it gave way, causing the Inspector and his chair to fall through. He ended up underneath the cottage, and was directed to meet the Chief outside.
  • Birds of a Feather:
    • Having falling into a bush in his garden after trying to get a look at a bird in a tree, Gadget received a Top-Secret call. It turned out he had landed on top of Chief Quimby, who was hiding in the same bush.
  • So It is Written:
    • Gadget got confused by the Top-Secret phone while playing a game of charades, and answered the phone as a chicken because that was what he was posing as for Penny. He then turned on his TV set to find Chief Quimby inside.
  • Fang the Wonder Dog:
    • Gadget was surprised by the Top-Secret phone while watching a news report about a failed kidnap attempt on Fang the Wonder dog together with Penny and Brain. He told to meet the Chief outside, disguised as a dog in a doghouse.
  • School for Pickpockets:
    • Gadget received a Top-Secret call while walking along the French Riviera with Penny and Brain. They were instructed to meet the Chief at a lemonade ice box.
  • Quiz Master:
    • After causing a power failure at home, Gadget turned on his flashlight finger. Then the Top-Secret Gadget Phone rang, and Gadget used the flashlight to head down into the darkened basement to find the Chief hiding in the washing machine.

Season 2 (1983 series)[]

  • Magic Gadget:
    • The Top-Secret phone rang while Gadget was awaiting a magic show at the Metro City Auditorium. He was told to meet Quimby at the popcorn stand, where he found the Chief in the popcorn machine and his assignment in the napkin holder.
  • The Great Wambini's Seance:
    • Hidden in a hamper in Gadget's bathroom, Quimby failed to get his attention, so he called him on the Top-Secret phone, sounding very muffled.
  • Wambini Predicts:
    • When loading his Gadget dishwasher, Gadget noticed Chief Quimby hiding inside, but turned on the machine anyway. The Chief then called him on the Top-Secret Phone, and Gadget asked him if he was near the ocean.
  • The Capeman Cometh:
    • Gadget received a Top-Secret call while using his Gadget Shaver. He ordered the shaver to go faster before meeting the Chief on the roof.
  • Crashcourse in Crime:
    • While washing his car and simultaniously teaching Corporal Capeman the rules of crimefighting, Gadget received a call on the Top-Secret phone.
  • Gadget's Gadgets:
    • Gadget received a call while training Capeman at his pool. He told "Capman" to keep up the good work and went off to meet with the Chief.
    • After Capeman had an accident with the training equipment, Gadget used the Top-Secret phone to call for an ambulance, stating this was an emergency.
  • Gadget in Minimadness:
    • Gadget fails to recognize his Top-Secret phone ringing, wondering what is up with those "confounding bells" and that it "can't be Christmas already." When Penny reminds him what it is, he answers that the phone is so secret, even he failed to recognize it. He then answered the call to meet Chief Quimby at a carwash.
  • The Incredible Shrinking Gadget:
    • Gaget received a call while bowling. One of his Gadget Hands extended from his hat to take the bowling ball so that Gadget could take the phone call.
  • Gadget Meets the Grappler:
    • Having just decided to postpone his diet for a day after the Gadget Kitchen Helper made him an extra sandwich, Gadget received a call on his Top-Secret phone and ventured outside to meet the Chief, who was hiding inside a lawnmower.
    • When Gadget decided to call a cleaning agency to send over some help, Capeman asked to be allowed to use the Top-Secret Gadget phone to do so. But Inspector Gadget explained to him that the Top-Secret phone was only for official use, and to use the phone in the house.
    • Professor Doomkauf called Gadget on the Top-Secet phone and imitated the voice of Chief Quimby. He told Gaget to go to the Oriental Express Mystery Tour Train immediately.
  • Busy Signal:
    • After using his Gadget Speedy Eyes to read a book on Logic in record time, Gadget received a Top-Secret call in his bedroom and was instructed to implement Plan 3B. This involved exiting the house through a secret passage way, jump out of a high window onto the diving board, then into the pool and use the Gadget Jackhammer to tunnel through the side of the pool, through the garden and come out with a burst of water next to the Gadget Flagpole. Quimby had climbed into the pole to give Gadget his assignment.
  • Focus on Gadget:
    • Gadget mistook the rining of the Top-Secret Phone for his tea kettle whistling. After Penny told him it was the Top-Secret Gadget phone, he answered it
  • M.A.D. in the Moon:
    • Gadget received a call while visiting the Metro City Planetarium and was told to meet Quimby who was hidden inside a fake asteroid.
  • N.S.F. Gadget:
    • Gadget received a call while sharing a prison cell with Reginald. He was instructed to meet the Chief who was hidden inside a trashcan on wheels. The Chief told Gadget he would have him released from jail right away.
  • Tyrannosaurus Gadget:
    • Gadget received a call while visiting a museum. He was riding a pterodactyl and using his Gadget 'Copter to make it fly at the time. He was told to meet Chief Quimby in another room at the moon landing exhibit.
  • Gadget's Roma:
    • Gadget received a call at the Metro City Library and learned the Chief was sick. he began to search for Quimby all over the room and in the process knocked over a globe, in which Quimby was hiding.
  • Gadget's Clean Sweep:
    • While playing a game of darts in his gym, Gadget received a call on from Quimby on the Top-Secret Phone. The Chief was hidden behind the dartboard.
  • Gadget Meets the Clan:
    • While driving around Sicily, Gadget was so enamoured with his surroundings that he neglected to answer his Secret Gadget Phone until Penny reminded him to do so.
  • Gadget and Old Lace:
    • Gadget received a call on the Secret Phone after receiving a package from World Inspectors Supply. He was surprised to find Chief Quimby hiding int he crate as well.
  • Gadget and the Red Rose:
    • Gadget received a Top-Secret call while testing the Gadzooka with Capeman in his backyard. Quimby hid inside the Gadget Target that Capeman had been trying to hit, as the Chief figured that would be the safest place.

Inspector Gadget Saves Christmas[]

  • Quimby, disguised as a Mall Santa, uses a mobile phone to call Gadget's Top-Secret phone, despite Gadget already sitting on the Chief's lap.
    • Later, while aboard a freight plane, Gadget uses his Top-Secret phone to tell the autopilot to drop the Gadgetmobile out of a trap door.
    • After arresting Santa Claus, whom he believes to be an imposter, Gadget offers him one phone call on his Top-Secret Gadget Phone. As it's Christmas Eve, he tells the first two minutes are on him, but to make it local.

  • For non-top-secret calls, Gadget also has the uses a regular phone. It is a pink cordless receiver that is held by one of the hands that extends from his hat.

  • Gadget in Winterland: Gadget used this phone to call the Winterland Ski School maintenance department about its gondola.

  • Eye of the Dragon: In London, Gadget used his regular phone to call Penny in Metro City.
  • Unhenged: Gadget thinks his alarm clock is a phone ringing, and tries to answer the pink phone that extends from his hat. After failing to brush his teeth because his Gadgets needed tuning up, his phone extended again so that Gadget could call room service to get him some scissors.

Season 2 (1983 series)[]

  • The Great Wambini's Seance: Upon seeing a young lady (Brain in disguise) four hands emerged from Gadget's hat, each holding a different item: the pink phone, a lollipop, a pair of scissors, and a shovel.
  • N.S.F. Gadget: Gadget produced the entire phone (not just the receiver) out of his hat on a small round standard and offered it to the Bank Guard to use.
